Opening the D23 Membership Package

Today, I received my D23 Membership Packet.  Let’s look inside, shall we?

Opening up the impressively sized cardboard container was easy – just rip open the cardboard zipper and fold the back over the top.  In doing so, you release the flaps, protecting the precious D23 material.

The D23 Membership materials are enclosed in their own protective plastic wrapper, showing the back of the Disney twenty-three magazine.

The plastic was sealed with an embossed D23 silver sticker.

Turning the plastic-wrapped package over, we can see the D23 membership material waiting for us.  Stacked on top of the inaugural issue of the magazine are our personalized membership certificate and a letter from Bob Iger, welcoming us to D23.  the letter says that our exclusive Charter Year gift will follow shortly.

The full-color certificate has a border of (most) of your favorite Disney characters on it.  Why they chose to include Eeyore instead Tigger is a question that we will have to bring up at the first D23 Membership Meeting.

One item that does not photograph very well, but you should be able to make out the design in the photo here, is a white decal for your car window.  The sticker is printed white-on-white, making getting a good photo a bit difficult.

And with all of this was the first copy of Disney twenty-three magazine.  I flipped through it quickly for a moment, and I am quite impressed – it seems to be a high-quality looking magazine (with imagery similar to Tales).  We’ll review the magazine’s content in a future column.

Here is what my new friend Bob had to say in his letter to me:

Welcome to D23!

As a Charter Member, you are now a part of a great new tradition here at Disney, as we celebrate you through our first official fan community!

Since the Disney Studios was established in 1923, millions of fans have been an important part of the magic we make, and as they share their passion for Disney with friends and families, they also become a part of our living legacy, keeping the magic of Disney alive generation after generation.

D23 will provide you – our Charter Members – with a greater connection to the timeless stories and experiences that define Disney.  As never before, we will take you behind closed doors and onto closed sets at the Disney Studios, backstage at our parks around the world, onto the red carpet at our movie premieres and grand opening celebrations, and into the vaults that house the rarely and never-before-seen treasures of the Walt Disney Archives.  As a D23 member, you now have unprecedented access to Disney’s past, present and future.

We are also busy planning the D23 Expo (September 10-13, 2009), which promises to be the ultimate Disney fan experience and your chance to mingle with other Disney fans, see the amazing creativity coming from every part of Disney, and meet the people who make Disney magic happen every day.

We hope you enjoy your first issue of Disney twenty-three and your personalized membership certificate.  Your exclusive Charter Year gift will follow shortly.

All of us at Disney are thrilled that you have decided to join us in D23’s Charter Year, and we look forward to sharing all the fun and excitement that’s “made for you and me.”

Sincerely,

Bob

Man – you are the best sales person for this club… I am close to joining because of your blog!! (I would join, but I do not believe I’d be able to attend the Sept. convention)…

By the way, did the letter really read, “We are also busty planning the D23 Expo”?

“busty”? Fixed…. and don’t worry about trying to attend the D23 convention this September. The D23 Expo is going to be an annual affair, so if you can’t make it this year, you can make plans for next year’s event.
