The NATIONAL PEST MANAGEMENT ASSOCIATION has released the results of their 2010 Pest Control Attitudes and Usage Survey, and it’s not pretty if you’re an ant.

According to the survey of over 1,000 US homeowners, ANTS are the number one pest in American homes.  Termites, spiders, cockroaches, and mosquitos follow on the list.  Some of the highlights include:

  • 54% of survey respondents named ants as their top pest concern.
  • 53% of survey respondents believe pest control professionals are more effective in handling household pest problems than they are. If the respondent was a current pest control user, that number increases to 88%.
  • 59% of current pest control users elect to have a contract with a pest control company because they feel it best protects their family. 56% also cite intolerance of pests as a secondary issue.
  • 84% percent of respondents who use professional pest control, had their most recent pest problem resolved in one to two visits.

None of this should really surprise anyone.

Speaking of which, did you know that BEDBUGS AREN’T ROMANTIC?

According to the Facebook application ARE YOU INTERESTED?, bedbugs are one reason that people do not want to get romantic with their partner.   The survey of 100 people found the following:

  • 56% of responders would leave their date if they noticed bed bug bites on his/her skin
  • 45% would use bed bugs as an excuse to get out of a bad date
  • 47% would ask if their date had bed bugs before going back to his/her place
  • 45% would cancel a date if someone admitted to a bed bug infestation
  • 35% have changed their usual dating spots because of a fear of bed bugs
