Safety Maps: for when a catastrophe happens and you need someplace to go

When All Hell Breaks Loose: Stuff You Need To Survive When Disaster Strikes
When All Hell Breaks Loose: Stuff You Need To Survive When Disaster Strikes

With all the recent catastrophic earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, acts of terror, random radiation accidents, or other significant environmental and man-made events happening, one question on your mind should be “what should I do if I find myself in this situation?”

More importantly, what should you do to be sure to reconnect with family or friends if a major situation occurs and you’re separated across town or across the country?

Check out SAFETY MAPS, a website where you can mark the specific place in the world where you will be if you need an emergency gathering place.

You know how when you visit Walt Disney World or the local mall, and you hear parents telling their kids, “if you get lost, we’ll find you right here by this flagpole/fountain/bench”?  Safety Maps is the same thing, except organized on the Internet instead.

And some of the criteria for needing a Safety Map are not all completely catastrophic.  They are:

  • An emergency
  • Earthquake
  • Blackout
  • Fire
  • Flood
  • Public transportation issue
  • Other (fill in the blank)

Once you’ve selected your safe location, just enter a short note with further details and you can email the map to all the important people who care about you.

Hopefully, setting up your Safety Map is the only time you’ll ever need to visit this site
