A new study has come out that shows some trends in how we use our cellphones.

The 2011 WIRELESS NETWORK PERFORMANCE SURVEY asked over 22,000 wireless customers for their answers on cell phone use and their carrier.  Here is some of what they found:

  • The average teenager sends 3,339 texts per month.  If you think that’s a lot, that’s only about 12 texts per hour for 12 hours a day.  So really, not so much… unless you’re the parent who has to pay $.10 per SMS message.  Then you’re probably a little pissed.
  • If you want good cell service (least problems reported), then try Salt Lake City. Avoid Sacramento.
  • The average wireless customer use about 450 minutes of talk time per month. The majority of cell phone use is for text messaging instead.
  • The average cell phone user sends/receives about 20 messages a day (about 500 incoming/outgoing messages a month)

Based on survey results, the overall best cell carrier was Verizon.  US Cellular also ranked well.
