How much chlamydia, syphilis, and gonorrhea cases are in your county?

STD’s (sexually transmitted diseases) are no laughing matter, especially if you’re a parent trying to raise teenagers.  Casual sex amongst young people happens, you know.  All a parent can do is hope that they’ve raised their children correctly in that they’ll use proper protection or common sense when it comes time to hook up.

So while parents will carefully research school districts and neighborhoods for a desired quality of life, some don’t think to check the CDC’S COUNTY-by-COUNTY REPORT OF REPORTED STDs AMONGST AGES 15-24.  The STDs reported are chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis.  And wouldn’t you know it, chlamydia is at the top of the charts!

Reporting at the county level for all 50 states could be a bit problematic, so the CDC made it easy by allowing you to report on just a single state at a time.

Let’s take Florida and Chlamydia for example.  There’s just ONE county across the entire state of Florida that’s considered a low reported STD rate for that.  Of the three reporting levels (low, medium, and high), the vast majority of counties have a “medium” reporting level, and there are 10 counties of “high” levels…. primarily across the northing part of the state.  Worried about syphilis in Florida?  You may want to stay away from the Miami / Fort Lauderdale area.

Another example: Chlamydia seems to have low reporting levels in Northern New Jersey… but maybe you should avoid the Cherry Hill area.  And maybe that one county just outside of New York.

See how much fun this is?  Maybe you should take this county-by-county report into consideration when you decide to move or vacation next.  We hear you can get an STD from just standing next to a dirty toilet seat.

(what? no?  well, we read it on the Internet, so it must be true.)
