How To Lose 10 Pounds in One Year By Doing Practically Nothing

The New York Post recently had an article entitled WHEN IT COMES TO WEIGHT LOSS, CUT 100 – CALORIES, THAT IS!

The article points out one simple fact:  if you eat 100 fewer calories a day for an entire year and change absolutely nothing else about your exercise or diet plan, then you will be taking in 36,500 fewer calories over the course of those 365 days.

100 fewer calories a day.  That should be easy.

One less fat-free Jell-O Pudding Cup.

One less slice of bread.

One less bottle of original VitaminWater (the full caloric version).

And since it takes 3,500 calories to burn off one pound – all things being equal, that’s 10 pounds that you’re not taking in that can be burned off from somewhere else.

This gets to the basics of weight loss:  cutting down on caloric intake and increasing (or at least, maintaining) the level of exercise that you’re currently doing.

So what are some 100 calorie examples of things that can be cut out?

  • Burger King is advertising at their cash registers to cut the mayonaise from their popular Whopper sandwich to remove a large chunk of calories and fat from their burger.  While eating a Whopper a day may not be the most healthy thing to have for lunch, if the only thing you do is cut the mayo – that can make a gigantic difference in the number of calories you consume every year.
  • Cut the oil from your salad dressings.
  • Substitute healthy snacks for carb-rich sweets:  one-third of a Snickers bar equals one mini-bag of microwave popcorn.  One half of a Krispy Kreme glazed donut is the same as 60 Goldfish crackers.  One “Two Bite Brownie” from Whole Foods Market is equivalent to two baked sweet potatoes.
