How much money can you make by blogging? Try $7.50/hour

Secrets to Blogging to a 6-figure salary

Bloggers, being the new century journalists that they are (yes, we’re thinking of you Perez!), have to walk a fine line between the low-cost of entry to the world of online publishing and the low-cost return on investment they get on what they’re writing about.

This does explain the current glut of blog-as-book deals that Web Watch has shown you over the past few months, because mama bloggers gotta eat, and blogging by itself just isn’t enough to pay the bills.

Flash Fun: Minions on Ice (from the creators of the *new* Desktop Tower Defense)

Desktop Tower Defense

Sometimes, all you want to do is climb into a heavy-duty tank and blow up someone else up in a massive game of capture-the-flag.

That’s just what you do in MINIONS ON ICE, one of the many games from David Scott and the CREATIVE COLLECTIVE, the creators of DESKTOP TOWER DEFENSE.

Yeah, that’s right.  David Scott is one of the masterminds behind Creative Collective, and he’s the guy who practically invented the Tower Defense genre that has killed so much of our free time with games such as Flash Element TD or variations from other developers like GEMCRAFT Chapter Zero.

What we’re trying to say here is that this is the gaming site behind one of the forces behind the casual gaming movement.  Web Watch wouldn’t steer you wrong on this.  Trust us – this stuff is good.

(Which reminds Web Watch – there’s a new version of DESKTOP TOWER DEFENSE available for Facebook users, with weekly updated maps.  Thought you’d want to know.)

Q: How many different chemicals do women put on their face every day? A: 515

Barbie Make-Up

HOW MANY DIFFERENT CHEMICALS DO WOMEN PUT ON THEIR FACES EVERY DAY?

A UK company, Bionsen, determined that the average woman puts 515 different chemicals on her face every day, using a combination of makeup, perfumes, mascara, and other products.

The average woman uses 13 different products daily, and each product contains at least 20 different ingredients — lipsticks and other makeup average 30 ingredients, and some perfumes can have as many as 400 different ingredients.

It gets scarier from there.  You pay attention to the labels on food you eat, but have you paid attention to the ingredient list on your personal grooming products… if those products even contain ingredient lists in the first place?

What were the Top Words of the Decade? (You might want to Google it)

Scrabble Dictionary

Every year for the past 20 years, the AMERICAN DIALECT SOCIETY has gotten together to analyze and review word usage for the previous 12 months.  The beginning of 2010 is no exception, as Allan Metcalf and Grant Barrett (from MacMurray College and the online dictionary Wordnik.com, respectively) have released this year’s WORD OF THE YEAR and WORD OF THE DECADE.

The word of the year?   “tweet”, as either a description of the act of using Twitter, or the Twitter message itself.

The word of the decade?  “google”, used as a generic verb to search the Internet.

OMG! (I’m the adult)

I'm not aging

Have you ever had one of those days when something major happens in your life and you come to the sudden realization of OMG – I’M THE ADULT?

Like when you’re in a car accident with a teenage driver and somebody has to remember to take pictures, write down insurance info, and call the cops?

Or when you’re at the mall and you see a young man without a belt on, and his sagging pants are dropped so low that his junk is flapping around for the world to see,  and you feel that the only responsible thing to do is to pull the lad aside and tell him that his junk is showing.

Movie Review: UP IN THE AIR

Up In The Air

Rated R for brief nudity, language, and obscene product placement imagery
Rating: A-

UP IN THE AIR is one of those high-concept films that tend to leave some audience members baffled at whether what they saw was good or not, yet they still leave the theater satisfied that the answer is “yes”… even if they can’t exactly say why that is.

George Clooney is typecast as himself – a charming guy who lives for travel and wearing suits – who is playing a character whose job it is to fly around the country and fire people.

RealEstalker gives Inside Scoop on Celebrity Homes

Maps to Celebrity Homes

We’ve previously covered how to LOCATE CELEBRITY HOMES ON GOOGLE here on Web Watch, and it seems to have been a hit with a number of Web Watch’s visitors.

So we thought we’d offer another way for tourists to look around and gawk at those places that celebrities call home when the celebrities aren’t invading our living rooms through that magic talking box in the corner.

Have a question about poop? Just ask Dr Stool…

Web Watch would like to introduce Web Watch readers to Josh Richman and Anish Sheth, MD, who collectively are known as DR STOOL.  (Web Watch will refrain from making any jokes about the two authors meeting while at Brown University, even if it is true.)

Josh and Anish have taken a practical approach to answering all manner of poo-related questions and have released a book entitled WHAT’S YOUR POO TELLING YOU? and a companion piece WHAT’S MY PEE TELLING ME?.

Do the math: Warren Beatty slept with a woman every 1.17 days

STAR: How Warren Beatty Seduced America

In Peter Biskind’s new book about Warren Beatty, STAR: HOW WARREN BEATTY SEDUCED AMERICA, we learn that Warren Beatty has allegedly slept with over 12,000 different women.

Approximately 12,775 - if you believe what the book says.

While there may be some Web Watch readers who will applaud Warren for coming anywhere close to even 1/4 of that number, there will be a large number of folks who will believe that Warren has completed all those conquests… and more… without question.

And that is where Web Watch can step in.  Because bedding 12,775 partners seems a bit over-achieving to us.

And apparently, we’re not alone in this thinking.

A New Year’s Resolution: To Stop Washing with Soap

Defense Soap

Every New Year, there are people who make casual New Year’s Resolutions that they hope to keep in order to better themselves (the traditional “stop smoking”, “exercise more”, and “spend more time with loved ones”), and then there are people like Richard Nikoley who believe in making a definitive lifestyle change for overall good.

It seems that Richard has decided to FREE THE ANIMAL within and make some dramatic changes to how he lives his life – things that may seem dramatic to others, that is.

You see, Richard has decided, among other things, to STOP USING SOAP AND SHAMPOO.

“2010″ is pronounced “twenty ten”. And it’s not the first year of the next decade.

Pirelli 2010 Calendar

A new year has begun and newscasters, magazine writers, bloggers, and others are all proclaiming 2010 to be the first year of the next decade with all their “best of the 00′s” lists.

Just like Web Watch had to do during the Y2K celebrations, we’re not here to put a damper on everyone’s fun, but TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT THE FIRST YEAR OF THE TWENTY-TEENS IS NOT 2010, BUT 2011

Remember it like this:  was there a year zero?  No.  There was a year 1.  And that made the tenth year, year 10.  But the tenth year only counts as a full year when it ends, not when it begins.  Which means that the completion of the first decade was on December 31st, 10.

Sure, there are those who will bring up the dictionary definition of “decade” as any set of 10 years that begin with a year ending in zero (ie 2000-2009), but that is just counter-productive to our discussion and will be ignored for entertainment reasons.
