Nathalie Bajos of the National Institute of Health and Medical Reseach (Inserm) took data from a 2006 French survey regarding sexual behavior and concluded that OBESE PEOPLE SUFFER FROM A VARIETY OF SEXUAL-RELATED ISSUES.  Her results were published in the British Medical Journal.

The study, entitled SEXUALITY AND OBESITY, A GENDER PERSPECTIVE: RESULTS FROM FRENCH NATIONAL RANDOM PROBABILITY SURVEY OF SEXUAL BEHAVIOURS, turned up the following observations from a pool of over 10,000 respondants:

  • Obese women are more likely to not use contraception.  Obese women under 30 were four times more likely to have an unintended pregnancy than women of normal weight.
  • Obese men are prone to impotence
  • Both obese men and obese women have less sex than those considered of normal weight
  • Obese women were 29% less likely to have had a sex partner in the previous 12 months compared to normal weight women.
  • Obese men under 30 were far less likely to have an STD when compared to non-obese men.
  • Obese men were also 69% less likely to report having more than one sex partner in the past 12 months as well.
  • Obese women did not report suffering from sexual dysfunction.
