Have you ever stolen anything from your hotel room?  We’re talking more than just taking the courtesy soap and shampoo.   We’re talking major or minor felony theft.

Have you?

Novatel Hotels have released a list of their MOST STOLEN ITEMS FROM HOTELS, based on their own room inventory replacements, and found that the following were the leading missing items:

  • Hotel towels
  • Sofa or chair cushions
  • Bathrobes
  • Lightbulbs
  • Remote controls
  • Coffee sachets
  • Coat hangers
  • Plastic tissue boxes

This litany of missing items is one reason why hotel chains like Novatel have opened boutique shops to allow guests to purchase room accessories directly without having to resort to petty larceny.

On the flip-side, Novatel also listed the MOST COMMON ITEMS LEFT BEHIND BY GUESTS:

  • Mobile phone chargers
  • Underwear
  • False teeth
  • Hearing aids
  • Adult toys
  • An occasional shoe
  • Electric toothbrushes

Also left behind at the lost-and-found are guitars and baby car seats.

Looking at the list of items left behind, Web Watch is going to let you in on a little travel secret:  If you’re ever travelling and find yourself without your cell charger — find a hotel that caters to business travellers and ask the front desk if “they found your charger”.  Chances are, they’ll bring out a box of assorted chargers from the lost-and-found closet, and tell you to just take whatever charger will work for you.  You get a free charger, they get rid of an item from their junk drawer — it’s a Win-Win situation for everyone!
