Q: What does Mickey Mouse smell like? A: mint, chocolate, and the sea

Have you ever wanted to smell like Walt Disney World or Disneyland?

Have you ever wanted to smell like a true magical fantasy?

Well, now’s your chance as The Disney Stores have decided to launch an exclusive perfume and fragrance line that captures the scentual essence of what “Disney” means.

The various products are:

  • IMAGINATION: an enchanted forest of sequoia trees, cool moss, and green leaves.  This timeless fragrance gives the sense of being in an enchanted forest.  Available as a home fragrance, such as candles.
  • MAGIC: A blend of icy blue mint, rich chocolate, and sea spray – this epitomizes the adventure of Disney and all that is Mickey Mouse.  Available as a home fragrance, such as candles.
  • PIXIE DUST: a combination of citrus sorbet, candied fruit, and summer rain – this was inspired by Tinker Bell.  This product line includes body glitter.

These scented products will be rolled out to Disney Stores beginning June 2011.

The question parents should be asking, and we may have to wait for the product launch itself to determine if this is a legitimate question or not, is whether Tinker Bell-influenced body glitter is an appropriate product to be sold to children.

If The Disney Store is taking a more adult tack and moving away from selling products primarily aimed at children and refocusing on products suitable for a wider age range, then Web Watch applauds this decision.  If this is just another way to prematurely adult-ify children by offering cosmetics that are typically used by adults, then this may be a misguided product attempt.

Let’s hope it’s the former, as Web Watch has often said that The Disney Store needs to return to marketing products that are appropriate for all ages and genders, not just those for the under-12 set.
