What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done in an elevator?

What’s the strangest thing you’ve ever done in an elevator?

Web Watch has only been stuck in an elevator twice before, and both times not for very long. The first time, we had to climb out of the elevator on a step ladder that had been lowered in from the upper floor.  Made for some rather amusing anecdotes with the upper management we were stuck with, that’s for sure.

But we really weren’t concerned, and the jokes weren’t nearly that funny.

Because as long as elevators are working properly, sometimes co-workers like to exhibit some less-than-savory attitudes towards others when riding together in a 3-foot square box.

According to a RECENT CAREERBUILDER SURVEY about elevator riding, there are a few things that they’ve seen their co-workers do that they may not have thought through entirely.  Here’s some of the less-desirable actions:

  • Showing someone else a rash, and asking for a diagnosis
  • “Pantsing” a co-worker
  • Moving the entire contents of a co-worker’s office into the elevator — you know, because that’s a good use of company time, since you know they didn’t bother to help move that co-worker’s stuff back to their office when the joke was revealed.

But even when you take the “shocking” views out of the picture, there are still some ANNOYING ELEVATOR HABITS that you should avoid doing.  Of those surveyed, here are the most annoying traits that they never want to experience again in an elevator:

  • 35% – Talking on a cell phone
  • 33% – Not having the door held open for you as you go to get to the elevator
  • 32% – standing WAY too close to the next person
  • 27% – not getting out of the way of people trying to leave the elevator
  • 20% – taking the elevator instead of taking the stairs
  • 7% – facing towards the back of the elevator, instead of facing the front like everyone else
