Why you should have an emergency fund

Lots of financial experts will tell you how important it is to have an emergency fund.

Heck, even Web Watch has told you about the plan to have $10,000 in savings before you turn 30.  And while $10,000 in the bank today may not mean as much as what it did 10 or 20 years ago, if you’re able to pull this off then you’re still doing better than the vast majority of people you hang around with.

Proof that old people are funnier than young people

Young people tend to ignore older folks.

Advertisers tend to ignore older folks.

Even some older folks ignore each other at times.

But you know, sometimes we should take the time to listen to our elders.  They say some pretty funny stuff sometimes.

At least one person sitting near you has a dirty picture on their phone

Quick show of hands — how many of you have a dirty picture on your cell phone, right now?

Web Watch isn’t concerned whether it’s one that you’ve taken of yourself (selfies!) or one that was sent to you (sexted) from one we would hope would be a really close friend.

The question still stands – do you have a dirty picture on your phone, of anyone?

Mad about outrageous corkage fees? Here’s one to make you angrier

How many times have you decided to go to a restaurant, and instead of buying one of their (slightly) overpriced wines off their wine menu, you’ve brought a special bottle with you from home or from the liquor store down the street?

Web Watch likes to eat at one local favorite specifically because they don’t have a liquor license and encourage guests to bring a bottle of wine from home.  They ask only $5 per bottle, perhaps to cover glass cleaning and the servers’ time in presenting the cork to us.

But considering that a $5 per bottle corkage fee is extremely reasonable in today’s restaurant world, we’re happy to pay that instead of other options that could be made.

It’s the one weight loss tip that EVERYONE can handle

Web Watch knows how difficult it can be to stick to a specific diet plan.

It’s the one thing that everyone says that they’re doing (as we’ve mentioned in the past).  What’s the old joke?  “How can you tell if someone’s a vegan?”

“Don’t worry – THEY’LL tell you.”

On a diet? Here are 200 calorie snacks you can have (some are better than others)

It seems that everybody is on some sort of diet these days.

Low carb diet, no carb diet, Atkins diet, South Beach diet, Full Body Cleanse, Grapefruit diet, Almond diet, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem — the list goes on.   We could even throw kosher, vegan, and vegetarian diets into the mix, as those are also both active decisions to eat food from specific food groups.

Look, all diets that are for weight-loss purposes (as opposed to diets for health reasons, such as for lactose-free, diabetic, or gluten-free diets) all come down to one thing:  you’re supposed to take in fewer calories than you expend in a given day.

Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the Oscars

The Academy Awards are an interesting concept.

It’s not unusual for participants in an individual industry to receive awards for outstanding work in their respective fields. Web Watch is no stranger to this, having received a few well-deserved (if we do say so ourselves) awards ourselves over the years.

But the Academy Awards – the Oscars  – and its brethren the Emmys, Tonys, and to a lesser extent the Grammys – that EGOT quad-award — are as unique an award presentation as any.

Not because there is such a thing as recognition of an acting job done better than others, but it’s the sheer over-the-top spectacle of a single industry celebrating the “art of making movies” (or TV shows, or Broadway productions, or music) where they believe that the entire world wants to see them present each other with awards for being able to cry convincingly on camera under a set of hot lights.

What size rocks are used in stoning?

In some parts of the world, stoning someone for legal, immoral, religious-based beliefs or other reasons is an accepted method of execution – whether the rest of the world believes stoning to be reasonable or not is a question that Web Watch will let others debate.
