35% of Americans will not go to the dentist

When was the last time you went to the dentist?

Do you go once or twice a year?  Or have you avoided going to the dentist unless it’s absolutely necessary to pay a visit to have a cavity filled or a root canal?

Web Watch knows a few people who avoid the dentist entirely. Haven’t been in years.

Then again, they don’t seem to have any dental issues that need to be taken care of, so maybe that’s working out for them.

Still, there are others who would like to go to the dentist, but aren’t doing so due to financial concerns.

In fact, ACCORDING TO A SURVEY OF 1000 AMERICANS about their dental plans, 36% are purposefully delaying going to the dentist entirely as they are unsure of their own financial or insurance situation.

The survey said that 33% of those surveyed would have lower take-home pay in 2013 than in 2012, and 44% didn’t have any dental insurance at all.

But people who do go to the dentist are often lectured on the importance of regular brushing and flossing to prevent gum disease.  They say that gum disease leads to more than just the loss of teeth, but it can also shorten one’s life expectancy.  Even with these regular reminders, just 10% of those surveyed thought that regular dental visits were critical to their overall health.
