How many weddings do you expect to attend this year?
If you’re at the age where all your friends are getting married seemingly every other weekend all summer long, perhaps you should think again about saying “yes” to every RSVP that comes your way.
Putting on a wedding can be costly, as everyone knows. But attending a wedding has costs of its own.
That’s what AMERICAN EXPRESS FOUND OUT when they surveyed wedding guests to get a handle on what ATTENDING A WEDDING COSTS.
They found out that the average wedding costs about $539 to attend. This includes travel expenses of $167, new wedding-appropriate clothes ($161), and a wedding gift for the happy couple ($108).
And if it’s a family member getting married instead of just a friend, that wedding gift cost will increase up to $179. Co-workers continue to get the short end of the stick, with wedding gifts for them dropping to just $66 on average.
If you’re a member of the wedding party, you should expect to spend $577 for all your wedding activities and formal wear – unless you’re lucky enough to be able to wear your wedding gear again.
