How old are you that you still get an allowance?

Think back: if you did receive an allowance from your parents when you were growing up, at what age did they stop giving it to you?

Did they stop as soon as you got your first job?

Did they stop giving you a weekly allowance and switch it to “payment for services rendered”, as you completed chores around the house?

The Allowance Game
The Allowance Game

If you lived in Italy, perhaps you could STILL BE GETTING AN ALLOWANCE FROM YOUR PARENTS no matter how old you were.

Consider this:  25% of all Italians over 40 years of age receive some sort of an allowance from their parents.

Granted, the reasons behind why these 40-year-olds still need to get that parental involvement is a different matter, as many claim that they need this money to get by in their day-to-day lives.  On the other hand, over 50% of Italians under 40 years old still live with their parents… or perhaps, the parents live with the children.

  • 28% of those that receive an allowance were between 35-40 years old
  • 43% of those that receive an allowance were between 25-34 years old
  • 89% of those between 18-24 years old need an allowance

So how old is too old to provide an allowance for your children?  Would you cut off the weekly or monthly financial feed to your children after they reach a certain age?
