What’s the best time to nap?

Remember when you were young, and your parents kept telling you to take a nap and you didn’t want to?

Now you’re older and all you would love to do is to take a nap at the office, if only for a little bit?

And you’re looking forward to those days in retirement where you can take a nap any darn time you’d like – just because you can?

It end up that there are SPECIFIC AMOUNTS OF TIME TO NAP if you want to achieve certain types of goals.

We’ve told you before that sleep cycles are typically 90 minutes long, so whatever length of time you choose to sleep overnight should be in 90 minute segments, so you should sleep for either six hours or 7 1/2 hours, but not for six hours, 30 minutes.  That would just throw your body off.

But for naps, there are some different rules.

  • 10-20 minutes will give you a quick boost of energy
  • 60 minute naps is best if you’re trying to remember long-term facts, faces, and names
  • 90 minutes will help boost creativity

What about a 30 minute nap?  Experts say that this is a bad idea, and can actually leave you worse off than if you just did a 10 minute nap.
