By web gangsta | Published:

When was the last time you walked into your doctor’s office? Remember when you had to fill out that clipboard at the front desk, and they asked you for your Social Security Number?

Guess what – they don’t really need that.

But you know who does? Criminals.

If you drive one of these cars, you’re about to get hacked

By web gangsta | Published:

As cars get more and more sophisticated these days, so do criminals who are out to get you or your vehicle.

Where old-school James Bond villains would merely attach tracking devices to your rear axle as you drive away, today’s criminal minds can be more nefarious – and perhaps even untraceable.

The Top Ten Most-Stolen Hotel Items

By web gangsta | Published:

Stealing things from hotels can be a compulsion for some.

Sometimes, it’s the principle of the taking.  When a luxury hotel charges you $400 (or more) a night for a suite, you sometimes feel obligated to take advantage of as much of the freebies as you can grab.

Only 52% of cellphone owners have done this

By web gangsta | Published:

It’s happened to everyone, at one time or another.

You’ve stepped away from your desk, bar stool, wherever — and not 3 minutes later you discover that your cellphone is missing.

Gone, in a blink of an eye.  Your entire life – photos, contacts, important numbers, etc — all gone forever.  Stolen, perhaps. Lost, definitely.

And the chances of finding your phone in the Lost & Found are likely slim to none.

Best way to avoid cyberbullies? Stop using Facebook

By web gangsta | Published:

In today’s cruel Internet world, if you participate in social media at all then you’ve likely participated (in one way or another) in cyberbullying.

And Web Watch isn’t even talking about the overly mean, news-worthy levels of pure, unadulterated hatred that should never happen to anybody, at anytime, anywhere, ever.  Just posting angry messages about anonymous people with bad driving habits, or Instagramming photos of unusual hair styles or clothing choices — those also could be counted under the generic CYBERBULLY tag.

Web Watch was in a grocery store recently, when we saw a customer walking through the aisles with her hair stacked up on her head and a baseball cap perched precariously atop the towering threads. It was not a good look on her, nor would it be a good look on anybody.  Why a baseball cap instead of a hair wrap? We may never know the answer.  But she was confident in what she was wearing, and Web Watch applauds her for this.  Continue reading BEST WAY TO AVOID CYBERBULLIES? STOP USING FACEBOOK

It’s a trap! (How to avoid email fraud)

By web gangsta | Published:

Web Watch knows many people who suffer from a daily deluge of spam email in their inbox.  It’s through no fault of their own – it has to do with their company email policies and the ease of guessing commonly spelled names at specific email domains.

Yes, we feel sorry for you, Ned Obody at the DMV.  Too bad you’re stuck with the email address of nobody@thedmv.goov as your email address.  (Note for anyone attempting to reach Mr Ned — Web Watch made that email address up, so the chances of it actually working are slim to none.)

Woman arrested for DWS: Driving While Shaving

By web gangsta | Published:

What’s your most embarrassing arrest story?

Oh, you have to have one.  That one time that you were doing something completely, totally ridiculous — but it made sense at the time – but you ended up getting arrested for it?

Even if what you were doing was perfectly fine if you handled your business at home?

Do You Know Who Dogs the Dog Poo?

By web gangsta | Published:

Let’s face it – picking up a bit of dog poop isn’t exactly the least humiliating thing one can do in public.

It has gotten to the point of public decency that if you’re walking your dog around town, you’re also pretty much carrying a plastic bag of poop with you.

“Hello, Fred – how’s it going?”

“Okay, Sam.  Say, would love to stay and chat with you – but I’m kinda carrying around a bag of my dog’s excrement right here, and if you wouldn’t mind…”

“Oh, certainly!  Go right ahead, I didn’t mean to stop you on your poop transport.”

But sadly, this isn’t always the case, is it?

Have you ever snuck into a concert?

By web gangsta | Published:

Web Watch has been lucky enough to have seen pretty much every major artist we’ve ever wanted to see play in concert.

Kenny Rogers?  Check.

U2? Check.

Neil Diamond? Check.

Village People?  You betcha.

And for the most part, we had tickets or passes for every show.  Now, we’ll admit that there may have been one or two where we did end up having to finagle our way into a venue or two, but we swear that we had a legitimate right to be there to justify our sneakiness.

Just because we didn’t have a ticket at the time doesn’t mean that we didn’t know where we could get one.

Video Fun: Apparently, you CAN get arrested at Disneyland. Peppersprayed, too

By web gangsta | Published:

Disneyland and Walt Disney World are often referred to as the “Happiest Places on Earth”.

And for good reason.

But there is an underbelly that seldom sees the light of day.  And it proves that even with the fantasy worlds that Walt built, sometimes people crack a bit under the pressure to always have a good time and escape.

Perhaps there’s a reason that alcohol is hard to find at the Magic Kingdom (unless, of course, you know where to look).

Let’s take a look at how Disney’s professional security teams deal with unruly, and occasionally violent, guests:

BitTorrent for Dummies
BitTorrent for Dummies

Remember how much fun Napster was, back in the day?

Yeah, well Napster is officially gone now.

What about LimeWire?  KaZaa?   Yeah, you shouldn’t be using those either.

Nope, whether you agree with the legalities (or lack thereof) of those sites, none of the old fun “file sharing” apps and websites are valid anymore, thanks to the movie and music industry.

And the proliferation of $0.99 songs and apps on the iTunes store.  That kinda helped a little bit.

Of course, you always have that peer-to-peer sharing via BitTorrent, which is a legitimate way to legally share giant files amongst people who need them.  Unfortunately, a few bad apples had to go and ruin BitTorrent for everyone else too, by using BT as a way to throw around pirated movies and music. FLASH! Bars, Boobs, and Busted: 5 Years on the Road with Girls Gone Wild

Canadian music fan Andrea Irwin has an incident on her permanent record , just for attending a Kid Rock concert.

It’s not unusual for people to be arrested at a Kid Rock show – it’s mostly out-of-control drunks and the occasional fight in the pit.  Web Watch has seen it first-hand — Rock puts on a great, entertaining and engaging show.  He’s a showman. His fans really get into it.

But to kick Andrea out of the building for merely enjoying herself and getting caught up in the moment?  That’s not right.

So what did Andrea do that was so horribly, horribly wrong that got her in trouble at a Kid Rock show? Continue reading FLASHING YOUR BOOBS AT A CONCERT CAN GET YOU IN TROUBLE
