The 2012 Top Earning Nightclubs in the Country

When you go out to the club, are all eyes on you?

Are you with the Party Rock Crew, where all drinks are free?

Well, to run a successful nightclub – you can’t make a habit from giving your drinks away to just anybody.  Handing them out for free to Web Watch?  Sure – that’s to be expected – but not everyone can get away with that like we can.

Still, when you’re making millions upon millions of dollars a year on $500 bottle service, it’s okay to throw out a free drink on occasion.  Grease the celebrity wheels, if you will.

The World’s Best Tourists for 2011

Web Watch does love to travel, and when we do we try to be the best, most considerate traveler we can be.

It’s not always like that, however.

We often find ourselves trying to be extra-polite to cover for those miscreants we run across who just give tourists a bad name.   They’re the ones who really ruin siteseeing for everyone.

Do we really need to have a gum-filled wall in Seattle?

Really?    Well, it might be considered “art” there… but it’s certainly not considered “art” when seen in a queue line at the local amusement park, is it?

Nope, there it’s just tacky, tacky.  Literally, in some places.

What to do in Vegas? In 2011, “not gamble” was on the list

Weird Las Vegas and Nevada: Your Alternative Travel Guide to Sin City and the Silver State
Weird Las Vegas and Nevada:
Your Alternative Travel Guide to Sin City and the Silver State

Web Watch loves visiting Las Vegas.

Then again, we also agree with our friends who say that “a little Las Vegas goes a long way”.  In other words, these people don’t necessarily enjoy the entire gambling, casino, nightlife, gambling aspect of Sin City.

Web Watch knows people that took a vacation out to Nevada and other points west, and their Las Vegas experience consisted solely of driving down the Las Vegas Strip.  They didn’t stop, they didn’t browse.  They had lunch as a nearby McDonald’s (not even at the In-n-Out!) before continuing on their merry way.

We don’t blame them.  There are aspects of Las Vegas that we don’t appreciate either.  But to each their own.

But then the Nevada Gaming Control Board decided to come out with their compilation of revenue numbers and financial analysis of the 2011 gambline business, and the numbers look a bit unusual to us here at Web Watch.

Common poker tells, from poker expert Mike Caro

Mike Caro's Book of Poker Tells
Mike Caro’s Book of Poker Tells

It’s a long weekend, so what better reason to ring in the New Year by getting together with your buddies for a late night of cigar smoking and poker playing?

But before you do, you might want to read up a little bit on how to recognize a “poker tell” – that is, those silent signs that your poker opponents aroung the table give off when they have a good or bad hand.

Some of these little ticks are done on purpose – players think that they can indicate whether they have a worse hand than they actually do by doing or saying something to throw you off the scent.  Other tells are things your body does whether you realize it or not.

This is an open letter to the marketing staff at MGM Resorts, Caesars Entertainment, Sands, and other casino corporations.  And if you’re part of the marketing staff at a different type of company, you may want to pay attention to this as well – since the core takeaway here applies to you as well.

How to be a Cirque du Soleil Contortionist

Cirque Du Soleil Anniversary Collection
Cirque Du Soleil Anniversary Collection

At last count, Web Watch has seen 14 different Cirque du Soleil shows –which, at an average ticket price of $100 apiece, plus concessions and otherwise, means that we’ve spent a hell of a lot of money on Guy Laliberte’s entertainment empire.

And every cent so far we consider money well spent.  Each production has been thoroughly entertaining and exciting.

One question we’re oft wondered is what it takes to be a Cirque du Soleil performer.  And while a lot of this was answered in the phenomenal reality series FIRE WITHIN on Bravo (seriously, it was awesome!), the question still remains about the physicality of what those performers do and how they do it.

Web Watch Rewind: Why do hotels charge for Internet access? Because minibars are on their way out

Running a Bed & Breakfast For Dummies
Running a Bed & Breakfast For Dummies

Web Watch works hard to make sure our readers are ahead of the curve on various topics.  We like to be among the leaders, not a mere follower.

Which is why, when we see articles on CNN about how INTERNET FEES IRRITATE HOTEL GUESTS, we secretly smile and go about our business in bringing you the good stuff, because we know that we already brought up this very same topic about hotel internet fees almost a year ago.

46% of people surveyed will spend time working while on vacation

Working for Vacation
Buy WORKING FOR VACATION

46% of people surveyed will spend part of their vacation time doing work instead of actually enjoying their time off.

Web Watch knows how they feel – during one Vegas vacation, we spent two days in the hotel room overlooking the Bellagio fountains, compiling a PowerPoint presentation for our boss who didn’t understand the meaning of “hey, just because we brought a laptop with us doesn’t mean that we’re available to you 24 hours a day…. especially while we’re in Vegas.”
