80% of couples live together before getting married

Living Together: A Legal Guide for Unmarried Couples
Living Together: A Legal Guide for Unmarried Couples

Living together before marriage: it’s not exactly a growing trend, it’s just something that’s been done for years and years.

Heck, if you want to get technical, Adam and Eve “lived together” in Biblical times.  There certainly wasn’t a priest around to make their arrangement an official “marriage”, if you will.

And while Web Watch knows that some parents are perfectly fine with the permanent roommate situation that living together brings, we also know of some couples who purposefully hide their living arrangements from the parental units.  It’s all about avoiding the wrath and disappointment of the parents, combined with the realization that the living-in-sin couple might have to pay for their own wedding arrangements, we assume.  To each their own.  Whatever works.

Wedding Planning for Dummies

The latest wedding day trend: Brides wearing a “Bridal Diaper”

The Pee Mate
The Pee Mate: Female Disposable Urine Director

Brides have it rough on their wedding day – for a day oft-celebrated as a Girl’s Happiest Day, the bride may not be celebrating as much as other members of her wedding party are.

The primary reason that you don’t see brides eating or drinking as much as they would like that day is not because they’re stressed out, or too busy to do so, or hopped up on tranquilizers.

No, it ends up that many brides choose not to eat or drink on their wedding day because THEY DON’T WANT TO USE THE BATHROOM WHILE WEARING THEIR WEDDING DRESS.  Some brides are taking their wedding undergarments to the extreme by wearing BRIDAL DIAPERS to help get them through the ceremony and reception.

Can you name 7 ways to mess up a wedding? Surprisingly “inviting Adam Sandler” is not on the list

Adam Sandler - They're All Going to Laugh At You
Adam Sandler – They’re All Going to Laugh At You

Web Watch has had some wonderful wedding memories:

  • There was the wedding at the bowling alley during the Stanley Cup playoffs
  • The wedding where the bride proudly proclaimed to everyone within hearing distance how she wasn’t going to consummate the marriage that night… and why.
  • Getting the entire wedding party to lick the ice sculpture as a photo opportunity for the official photographer…after pretty much all the other guests have already done the same thing.
  • That wedding where we had to arrive six hours early to clean the bathrooms at the reception hall

And then there was the wedding where the DJ was asked to play the first 20 seconds – and only the first 20 seconds – of this NSFW song during the reception:

Seriously, that was a wedding to remember. And all of the above — good friends, and good times all.

And no, we won’t mention the engagement party where the groom-to-be publically and graphically declared his love for his bride’s bosom.  Because that was not a wedding, and therefore ineligible for this post.

Today’s Fact: 40-50% of American Marriages End in Divorce

Guy's Guide to Getting Over a Divorce
Guy’s Guide to Getting Over a Divorce

Sometimes one needs to evaluate their personal relationships based on statistics around us in order to see whether we are above the norm or staying about average.

We all want to be in the top x% of whatever the good ranking is; nobody wants to be “average” or worse.  Unless the topic is one such as divorce, in which case the object is to NOT be in the normal range — especially when the range appears to lean towards divorce being the norm.

Sometimes you can’t help it – some marriages are destined to lead to divorce based on established criteria learned from hundreds of thousands of divorces before yours.  That’s what led economist Betsey Stevenson to create the DIVORCE CALCULATOR, a simple way to determine the likelihood of your relationship ending in a flurry of court-approved paperwork or not based on education level and financial stability.
