Cake Wrecks

The CAKE WRECKS blog is simple, really.   Take a picture of a poorly-designed cake that was prepared at the local bakery or supermarket, upload it to the site, and mock it mercilessly on its spelling choices or bad art motifs.

It’s best when it shows the more creative side of cake decorating – Duff and the rest of the crew at Charm City Cakes have nothing to worry about here.  Cake Wrecks found a Star Wars-themed cake featuring Darth Vadar hovering over a newborn baby.  A cake decorated with a USB flash drive…instead of with the image store on the drive.  A Super Bowl-themed cake…drawn on a cake designed as a baseball-field.

And nothing can compare with their five-photo gallery of cakes designed to look like feet.  Ugly, post-operative feet.

The Evolution of Dance, Part 2

You may not know the name Judson Laipply, but you’d recognize his ORANGE CRUSH t-shirt and crazy dance moves from being one of The Most Watched YouTube Videos EVER, a little ditty called THE EVOLUTION OF DANCE.  Let’s take a look, shall we?

I don’t know if you saw the announcement, but Judson has released THE EVOLUTION OF DANCE 2, with all new songs and new dances.  I personally don’t find it as fresh as the original one was, but I applaud the addition of some moves that deserved to be in the first version.

Found Item Clothing

Have you found yourself watching a TV show or movie and wonder to yourself where YOU could buy a gorilla-faced t-shirt like Val Kilmer was wearing in the film Real Genius, or maybe you want a pair of his bunny slippers.  If so, then FOUND ITEM CLOTHING should be your next stop.

They seem to cover all genres, with a focus on the classic films of the 80’s, like TRON (“Flynn’s Arcade”), Beverly Hills Cop (“Mumford Physical Education Dept”), a “Camp North Star” shirt from Meatballs, and even Cameron’s “Caduceus” t-shirt from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.   If you order now, you’ll be ready for Halloween a few months early, even.

Asher Roth: I Love College

A friend of mine reminded me of this video that I saw a while ago but completely forgot about needing to share as well:  I LOVE COLLEGE by Asher Roth.  So I’ll give the inspiration credit to him, and post the video here anyway:

Some might say that this video is a college fantasy, dreamed up just for the song.  Maybe it all depends on the school you went to, but mine was pretty darn close to this some of the time (or so I heard).

Not all the time, that would just be crazy talk.

Asher Roth promoted himself really big on MySpace before being discovered.  For once, being Tom’s friend has paid off for someone.

How to Sell Music Online: Peoples Music Store

There are a few different ways people can buy music online, but they are all basically the same whether it by the iTunes Music Store, eMusic, Amazon, ro any other retailer.

PEOPLES MUSIC STORE is a bit different, as it is setup and run by YOU, the music fan.  And unlike that alleged Ponzi scheme BURNLOUNGE from a few years ago, you don’t have to pay any money to participate.

All you have to do is select the music you want to sell, write a few reviews and articles, and post your links for people to buy from you.  You’ll be able to promote your store by including code on your own website, or by using Widgets on places like MySpace or Facebook.  The better you are at providing reviews and commentary, the more visible and profitable your storefront will become.

I’d call the whole thing “MyTunes”, but that name is already taken.

15 Companies That Might Not Survive 2009

One of today’s phrases that is sorely in need of being retired is “…in today’s economy…”.  While true, it’s way way overused.

Unfortunately, it happens to fit U.S. NEWS AND WORLD REPORT’S LIST OF 15 COMPANIES THAT MIGHT NOT SURVIVE 2009.

We’ve already seen Linens-n-Things and Circuit City close up shop this year. Muzak filed Chapter 11 today.  The question is, who’s next?

According to US News, the ones to watch this year are:

How to Treat your Business Like Disney

Diana Freeman is a blogger specializing in social media and other related topics.  I really like her stuff; if you have a chance to do so, bookmark her site.

She  recently returned from a Walt Disney World vacation and wrote an interesting piece entitled DISNEY: A MODEL OF SUCCESS FOR YOUR PRODUCT OR WEBSITE, where she analyzes all the things that Disney does well, and how you can apply those techniques to your own business or website.

Here are the high points of what she talks about, and my brief interpretation:

How to Opt-Out of Online People Search Databases

You know how you can just enter anyone’s name into Google, ZabaSearch, WhitePages.com, or other people-oriented search engine and be pretty much assured that you’ll be able to get their name, address, phone number, list of last known relatives, and birthdate without even trying very hard?  All that information is available for free without too much effort for practically anyone who bothers to go looking for it.

PrivacyRights.org has compiled a PRIVACY RIGHTS DIRECTORY OF OPT-OUT DIRECTIONS for those of you who would like to removed yourself from appearing in those online directories.  It won’t remove you from the original sources that these directories pull from, and the directories don’t make any promises that you won’t re-appear in the future – but at least most of these search sites offer some way to limit the amount of information that’s available about you online to the casual web surfer.
