Difference between men’s buttons and women’s buttons

Yet another sign that someone has too much time on their hands.

Check out this blog post from someone who has some in-depth analysis about why buttons on men’s clothing are left-over-right and buttons on women’s clothing is right-over-left.  Apparently, the commonly-thought reasoning of “because women help men dress” isn’t necessarily the correct answer.

What other products are created in specific men/women versions that really have no basis to support the difference beyond marketing?

F*** My Life

F*** MY LIFE is a venting and ranting forum for people who feel their life sucks but they don’t care.

Plus, you get good feedback from the other users on the site.  So after you post an example of why your life sucks   (“Today, I was talking to my parents about feeling insecure with my “beach body” as Spring Break keeps getting closer and closer. My dad proceeded to warn me by saying, “Don’t wear a gray swimsuit. People will try to roll you back into the ocean”. FML”), other people get to vote whether they agree with you and your life is crap, or if you did deserve that one.

The current top FML?  Try to top this one:  “Today, I received my passport in the mail. They got my birthdate wrong. Then I picked up my birth certificate that I had sent in with the application. Turns out my parents have been celebrating my birthday on the wrong day for 16 years. FML”  Yeah, they’re screwed.

Progress City – A Response

I enjoy reading Michael Crawford’s PROGRESS CITY, USA blog – it offers well-researched, well-written commentary and analysis of the history of Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and other aspects of the Walt Disney Corporation.   If you’re a Disney theme park fan, you will be well served by bookmarking the site and reading the updates as they come in.

I do want to respond to one paragraph written in the most recent posting, TEN WISHES FOR THE NEW YEAR, #9.   In it, Michael says…

“What’s more unsettling are the areas in which the rest of the industry has not only caught up with Disney but surpassed them. These days, pretty much any run-of-the-mill chain motel has free wi-fi, or at least internet service. Not only does internet access at Disney require calling room service for an Ethernet cable, but using the service costs the guest ten dollars per room, per day. This blatant price gouge puts Disney not only behind its high-end competition, but also far behind even its most lowly lodging competitors. It might seem like small potatoes, but considered in the light of the resort’s once-unparalleled level of service it looks shabby at best.”

I do agree with the sentiment being expressed in the overall article, in that there appears to be a small decline in the amount of service at the Disney hotels when compared to the service level offered in years past.  However, to point out the Internet pricing on the Disney property as an example of a service decline is, I feel, misguided.

Game: Guess the Band

Here’s another game you can play on long road trips:  GUESS THE BAND

All you have to do is rattle off the names of people in the band, and have people guess.  The first person to guess correctly gets a point.  This one should only be played by people who really are into their music and claim to know their bands inside-and-out.

Let’s try some examples:

Game: Guess the CD

Here’s another game you can play with your friends on long road trips: GUESS THE CD.

Just rattle off the names of the songs on the CD (in any order you choose, preferably from obscure to common).  The first person to guess the name and artist of the CD wins a point.

Let’s try it, shall we?

Laughing at Fanny Packs

A friend of mine has many rules about how to live a happy life.

“Don’t wear denim shorts.”
“Don’t bother Daddy during the World Cup.”
“Don’t wear a fanny pack.”

The people at FANNY PACK ANTICS agree with my friend completely, and their photo gallery of tourists-gone-fashionably-wrong is an indication that there is something very, very troubling going on in today’s airports, bus terminals, and tourist destinations.

Their goal is to photograph every fanny-pack-wearing creature and post the horror of this image for the world to see.  This is probably the only place you’ll see a photo of tourists taking photos of the Leaning Tower of Pisa, instead of photos of the Tower itself.  That one make me laugh, as everyone was trying to do their best “hey, watch me hold the tower up. it’s hysterical!” pose.

Cake Wrecks

The CAKE WRECKS blog is simple, really.   Take a picture of a poorly-designed cake that was prepared at the local bakery or supermarket, upload it to the site, and mock it mercilessly on its spelling choices or bad art motifs.

It’s best when it shows the more creative side of cake decorating – Duff and the rest of the crew at Charm City Cakes have nothing to worry about here.  Cake Wrecks found a Star Wars-themed cake featuring Darth Vadar hovering over a newborn baby.  A cake decorated with a USB flash drive…instead of with the image store on the drive.  A Super Bowl-themed cake…drawn on a cake designed as a baseball-field.

And nothing can compare with their five-photo gallery of cakes designed to look like feet.  Ugly, post-operative feet.

The Evolution of Dance, Part 2

You may not know the name Judson Laipply, but you’d recognize his ORANGE CRUSH t-shirt and crazy dance moves from being one of The Most Watched YouTube Videos EVER, a little ditty called THE EVOLUTION OF DANCE.  Let’s take a look, shall we?

I don’t know if you saw the announcement, but Judson has released THE EVOLUTION OF DANCE 2, with all new songs and new dances.  I personally don’t find it as fresh as the original one was, but I applaud the addition of some moves that deserved to be in the first version.
