College students are notoriously cheap. They’re already living in expensive (for them) housing, likely with three or more roommates, and they’re doing everything they can to minimize their living costs. Pizza, while tasty, isn’t good for you health-wise.
But it is cheap.
And you don’t see a lot of college kids hitting fancy restaurants often, and when they do – the tip for the wait staff can be daunting. It’s extra money that could go for gas or beer or condoms… but instead you are obligated to finance your waiter’s needs for the same.
And tipping amount is arbitrary. Do you do it on the full bill amount? Just on the before-tax value? 17%? 25%? Somewhere in between?
