2012’s most pirated TV shows

Filesharing on the Internet often gets a bad rap.

There are tons of legitimate – legal – reasons to use filesharing software programs and services such as BitTorrent to distribute gigantic files across the Internet.

But then there are the grey area items, where you ARE a subscriber to a particular pay channel and just happened to miss the latest episode of your favorite program. You COULD, of course, fire up that Pay Channel’s online app and log in with your appropriate username and password to watch that program on-demand.

Or maybe your TV service/cable provider makes the latest episodes available to you a day or two after they’ve aired.

And even if you have paid for the service and the ability to watch these programs whenever (and practically wherever) you choose to do so, sometimes you have to resort to using a filesharing service like BitTorrent to find that episode that you were looking for.

Hey, we’re not saying you SHOULD do that.  We’re just saying that there are people out there that DO do that.

And even free TV shows have the issue.  Anybody can pick up CBS or NBC for free with their rabbit ear HDTV antenna, so in one way, the networks are practically giving away their content for free (paid advertisements aside).  So how illegal is it to fileshare last week’s episode ofShark Tankif it’s generally free in the first place.

Don’t answer that last question. It’s rhetorical.  Stealing intellectual property is wrong.  Don’t do it.

But all this brings us to today’s list of the MOST PIRATED TV SHOWS FOR 2012, courtesy of the TorrentFreak website.  Frankly, this basically looks like a list of “most liked, talked-about shows for 2012” so none of the shows listed here should be a surprise to anyone:

  1. Game of Thrones
  2. Dexter
  3. The Big Bang Theory
  4. How I Met Your Mother
  5. Breaking Bad
  6. The Walking Dead
  7. Homeland
  8. House
  9. Fringe
  10. Revolution

If you’re torrenting any popular shows because they’re Just Not Available in any available method, what shows do you think should be on this list?
