Dogs are man’s best friend. At least, until someone gets bitten. Then the offending dog is nobody’s friend.
We have friends with all sorts of dogs, running the gamut from lap dogs to big ol’ greyhounds. Even a Great Dane has been in the mix. A litter of pitbulls. No poodles, though. Not that we know of, at least.
But we’ve only seen one dog attack amongst all the dogs we’ve been familiar with. And in hindsight, maybe there’s a reason for it.
BEWARE OF THE DOG, THE CAT IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY EITHER
So it should come as no surprise that the American Veterinary Medical Association did a little bit of historical research, going all the way back to the 1970’s, to come up with THIS LIST OF THE 10 MOST DANGEROUS DOGS.
- German Shepherd
- Pit bull (or Pit bull-type)
- Mixed breeds
- Rottweiler
- Chow Chow
- Jack Russell Terrier
- Collies
- Springer Spaniels
- Saint Bernard
- Labrador Retriever
They do want to point out that this list is solely based on the injuries that were caused by these dog breeds, and should not be an indicator that the breed itself is any more dangerous than any other when it comes to choosing a dog as a pet.
Now, when it comes to FATALITIES CAUSED BY DOGS, there are certain breeds that are more prone to causing death than others — also from data compiled by the AVMA.
- Pit Bull
- Rottweiler
- German Shepherd
- Husky
- Wolf-Dog Hybrid
- Malamute
- Doberman Pinscher
- Chow Chow
- Great Dane
- St Bernard
Have you been bitten by a dog? What breed did that to you?
