If you were to ask 100 people what they thought was the FUNNIEST MOVIE EVER, you’d likely get 100 different answers.
Luckily, you don’t have to ask for an opinion on the matter when you can use MATH to calculate the answer.
The UK movie streaming service LOVEFILM ran a study where they did survey their users for a list of comedic films… but then they went through the scientific process of actually counting how many times each suggested film made viewers laugh.
From there, it’s just a simple matter of taking the NUMBER OF TOTAL LAUGHS and dividing that by the LENGTH OF THE FILM to generate a composite funny score that could be used to directly compare films to each other. A LAUGH A MINUTE value.
What were the films? Let’s take a look:
- Airplane! (3 LAUGHS/MINUTE)
- The Hangover (2.4)
- Naked Gun (2.3)
- Superbad (1.9)
- Borat (1.7)
