If you’re one of those people who are having casual sex, one-night stands, “dating” in college, friends-with-benefits, or even suspect your long-term partner is having a torrid affair with a Vegas stripper that they met while attending a business conference, you may want to have a box of tissues nearby.
Why?
Because Russian researchers have discovered that people harboring a sexually-transmitted disease, smell different.
In a study published in the JOURNAL OF SEXUAL MEDICINE, they found that PEOPLE WITH AN STD HAVE A DISTINCT BODY ODOR when compared to those people who don’t have an STD.
The study had 34 young men donate armpit sweat and spit for young women to sniff.
Of those men, 13 had gonorrhea, 5 had gonorrhea previously but were treated, and 16 were healthy.
The results were fairly definitive: all of the STD-infected men ranked lower on a “pleasantness scale” by the smelling women than those men who were not infected with an STD.
- Nearly 50% of the infected sweat was labelled “putrid”
- Compare that to the 30% of the healthy men’s sweat was putrid, and less than 40% from the treated men was putrid.
The takeaway was that there infected sweat was definitely noticably worse.
So the next time you go on a blind date or meeting an online matchup for the first time – don’t go out for coffee. Go for a long run instead.
It’ll give you time to talk, get some fresh air, and afterwards – give you a good idea whether you really should be jumping directly into bed with them or whether you need to run by the drugstore first.
