When should you stop wearing your wedding ring?

Quick poll:  how many Web Watch readers are currently divorced?

We’d go with an average and say that at least 25% of you are… but we figure that may be a bit high of an estimate.

Even so, it wouldn’t surprise us if that were the case.  There do seem to be a large number of divorced people in this world, but they all seem to have the same question in their minds:

HOW LONG SHOULD YOU CONTINUE TO WEAR YOUR WEDDING RING AFTER THE DIVORCE IS FINAL?

Such was the question posed by a British magazine regarding wedding ring etiquette.

It all comes down to what the person with the ring is most comfortable with.  Web Watch has a friend who didn’t even get to the divorce stage of their relationship; the wedding was called off beforehand. But she kept the ring, converting the diamond to a pendant.  The relationship, it seems, was not worth keeping one piece of jewelry around, but the jewelry was worth keeping in some form or other.

Some say that the ring comes off the moment the relationship is over. Others will wait until the paperwork has been completed, making each individual in the couple legally free to move on.

Some women say that they continue to wear their ring, if only to keep strangers from approaching them while they’re out.

What’s your ring policy?  Make a note in the comments and tell us what you’ve done in the past.
