Boosting your metabolism helps you lose weight. Sadly, Twinkies are not the answer

One thing Web Watch knows how to do is tell others what they are supposed to do to lose weight.
It’s quite simple – “eat less and exercise more.”

See how easy it is to say that?  The hard part, as we all know, is actually following through with the advice that we freely give to others.  Web Watch may not practice what we preach, but we’re really not the kind of people we would preach to anyway.

So let’s pretend that you’re already trying to eat a sensible breakfast, healthy lunch, and small portions at dinner.  You’re exercising a little bit every day as best you can, but you haven’t really noticed any real differences yet.

Maybe all you need to do, since you’re doing everything else right, is to kickstart your metabolism a little.  Here are a few suggestions that you can try:

DO SOME PUSHUPS AND SCISSOR KICKS FIRST THING IN THE MORNING

  • As soon as you get out of bed, do as many pushups as you can.
  • Wait 30 seconds
  • Do as many pushups as you can
  • Wait 30 seconds
  • Do one last set of as many pushups as you can
  • Next, roll over onto your back and scissor kick for one minute
  • Rest for one minute
  • Do another minute set of scissor kicks

See what you can accomplish in less than 5 minutes first thing in the morning?  Now you’re ready for some breakfast!

THE SECRET TO BOOSTING METABOLISM IS FOOD

  • Keep a food log to identify exactly how many calories you’re taking in every day.  If you aren’t losing weight (but aren’t gaining weight, either) then your daily caloric intake is also your metabolic rate
  • Eat many small meals a day instead of three larger meals
  • Breakfast is important
  • Drink lots of water
  • Eat more food earlier in the day, don’t fill up at dinnertime
  • Try a low glycemic diet, or more spicy foods
  • Drink coffee
