A recent survey of 500 men who have western-style toilets at their homes concluded that 33.4% OF JAPANESE MEN SIT DOWN TO PEE while at home.
The survey, performed on behalf of TOTO – makers of home bidet systems and other bathroom fixtures – shows an increase of about 9.7% over the numbers from the last time Toto conducted a survey of bathroom habits in 2004.
For those who preferred to sit down to pee, the most common reasons given were:
- To stop urine splashing around (69.5%)
- It is more comfortable (45.5%)
- It is easier to clean up (43.1%)
- Was told to by family or similar (10.8%)
Stand-up pee people had their own reasons for doing so. Overwhelmingly, the reason given to pee standing up was “because that’s how you do it” at 82.2%. Those who pee standing up simply because it’s quick and comfortable came in at 20%.
