Survey lists the Top Ten TV Show Bosses that are most like actual bosses

Do you like your boss?

Not everybody does.

Sometimes, it all depends on whether you have respect for your boss and their abilities, or whether the boss treats you as you would like to be treated.

Sometimes, the bosses you see on TV are the only ideal that you have available to compare bosses with, and that’s when you find out that your boss just doesn’t measure up.

CareerBuilder.com SURVEYED OVER 4000 PEOPLE ABOUT THEIR FAVORITE TV BOSSES, and here’s what they found:

  • 31% said that they felt that they could do their bosses’ job better
  • 60% said that they don’t feel that their bosses could do their jobs.
  • 61% said that their bosses don’t properly groom successors
  • 45% said that their bosses did not provide regular or consistent feedback
  • 35% said that their bosses could back them up better
  • 72% said that bosses did a good job offering flexibility
  • 69% felt that their bosses listened to ideas and concerns
  • 68% felt that bosses gave them the resources necessary to complete their job

When asked to name TV show bosses that most reminded them of their own actual bosses, the top ten most named bosses were:

  • Jacob from “Lost” – you’re never really sure where he is, what he wants and what he has in store for you
  • Judge Judy from “Judge Judy” – no nonsense and is fair when making decisions
  • MacGyver from “MacGyver” – resourceful and can fix any situation
  • Jack Donaghy from “30 Rock” – likeable and a corporate guy, through and through
  • Oprah Winfrey from “Oprah” – very influential and informative
  • Simon Cowell from “American Idol” – judgmental and insulting
  • MacGruber from “Saturday Night Live” – terrible with managing projects and deadlines, causing everything to blow up around him
  • Michael Scott from “The Office” – bumbling and idiotic
  • Leslie Knope from “Parks and Recreation” – believes her job is more important than it probably is
  • Donald Trump from “The Apprentice” – demanding and powerful
