How much money can fantasy sports players earn?

It’s almost football season here at Web Watch, and you know what that means — it’s time to get your FANTASY FOOTBALL TEAM NAME together, and start gathering the troops for another exciting season of Fantasy Sports.

Whether your passion is Fantasy Football, Fantasy Baseball, Fantasy Soccer, or some other pretend league, your spouse is likely asking the same question:  with all the time you’re spending on this stupid hobby, why don’t you try doing something that can, you know, MAKE SOME MONEY?

Well, it ends up that YES, YOU CAN MAKE MONEY PLAYING FANTASY SPORTS.  And we’re not talking about earning $20 a week from your buddies.

According to the Wall Street Journal, there are people who are playing Fantasy Sports games online and are earning over $100,000 a year doing so.  Over 100 people earned over $40,000 in 2012 alone.

How big is big?  One website is offering a $200,000 prize for 1st place in a Fantasy Baseball contest.  That’s a lot of fantasizing.

One person profiled was able to earn $20,000 in just two months.  Another game player won two major payoffs (a $50k and a portion of a $40k win) in six weeks.  Oh, there’s money to be had in fantasy sports — the question is whether YOU’RE good enough to take it on.

They say that a hobby is just a job you do that doesn’t pay you any money.  Would you ever quit your career to take up your hobby full-time in the hopes that you could make some cash at it?  Ever ask your spouse what they would do if you decided to quit your job to chase your dream?

How’d that work out for you?  Tell us about your money-making hobby in the comments below…
