Have you purchased your Thanksgiving turkey yet?
In case you haven’t, here’s a helpful tip: THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FRESH AND FROZEN TURKEY is negligible. Some people would say that Fresh is always better… but if you’re one of those, you’ll need to keep in mind that a FRESH turkey must be cooked within 2 days of being purchased, according to the USDA’s guidelines on food safety. A frozen turkey make take days to thaw properly (figure about 1 day for every 4-5 pounds) — so if you were to start your frozen turkey thaw now, you should be good to go for the Thanksgiving holiday.
As for those who thought they’d go out and have already purchased their fresh, unfrozen turkey — they may want to be sure to keep that thing on ice for another day or two before beginning the brining process. Don’t want to give your Thanksgiving guests any food poisoning, do you?
