Movie Review: Land of the Lost

Rated PG-13 for a couple of swear words, some action movie violence, some adult-oriented innuendo, and some naked Pakunis.

Rating: C

The good thing about this LAND OF THE LOST film is that it really does a great job of filling in the blanks that the classic Sid & Marty Krofft television show left out in their original plot.  Some liberties had to be taken, of course, to explain why Marshall, Will, and Holly were on a routine expedition (and how the three got together, considering they don’t start out as taking a family vacation in the movie like they did in the TV show).

Movie Review: The Hangover

Rated R for adult situations, sex, booze, drugs, profanity, boobs, weiners, and too many shots of ugly dude butts.

Rating: B

THE HANGOVER is the latest comedy from Todd Phillips, the director of Old School.

The premise is simple:  four guys go to Las Vegas for a routine weekend bachelor party at Caesar’s Palace.

Parents’ Guide to the Movies, Video Games, and More

These days, parents have a hard time keeping track of what is good for their kids, or what their kids should avoid – if only due to the sheer amount of content that parents need to stay up with.

Did any of the parents who brought their young kids to a free concert in Central Park last week know what to expect when Green Day took the stage?  The concert was sponsored by ABC’s Good Morning America and Walgreen’s, so nothing offensive was going to happen, right?

Watching that clip, you can see the parents with their kids happily singing along to every curse word used in the song.  But I’m sure there were some families in the crowd that did not expect a TV morning show concert to contain profanity.

Awesome Quotes from Reviews of Disney-Pixar’s UP

While Web Watch did post a glowing review of Pixar’s latest film, UP – it seems that we were not the only ones with positive things to say about this Pete Docter film.

Here are some of the more interesting quotes from movie reviews that have been printed so far.

David Germain wrote this, in his article CANNES FESTIVAL OPENS WITH “UP”:

…the Pixar Animation gang finally feels it has made it to the grown-ups’ table with “UP,” the first animated movie to open the Cannes Film Festival.

The Oscars compartmentalize animated films into their own category. Audiences often do the same, lumping animation in as a genre meant mainly for kids.

But Pixar’s creative minds feel the choice of “Up” as the Cannes curtain-raiser signals that animation can stand alongside the best that live-action films might offer.

“There’s a perception that animated films are for kids. A lot of people have that, which I think is very unfortunate. The films are made by adults who have very adult concerns,” said Ed Catmull, president of Disney and Pixar’s animation studios.

“What happens now at Cannes is they’re recognizing it as a film. Not as a category, but as a really great film.”

Movie Review: Disney-Pixar’s UP

Talking Dog DUG toy from Pixar's UPRating: A+

Pixar’s 10th film, UP, is three different films all rolled into one.

At its core, UP is a beautiful, poignant love story about a man (Carl Fredricksen) who just wants to keep a decades-old promise to his wife Ellie that they will live a life of adventure in South America.  Anyone who has dreams and aspirations with a loved one, only to have to set those aside at times, will really appreciate this aspect of the film.

Movie Review: Star Trek (2009)

Rated PG-13 for action movie violence, one or two bad words, and a little bit of alien nookie.  Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

Rating: A

If you were a Star Trek fan growing up, or even have general appreciation of the original TV series, you will be extremely happy with this film.
