We all know someone who can rattle off any movie quote, from any movie, at any time.

They’re the kind of guy that nobody really wants to hang out with… unless it’s Trivia Night at the local bar, and your normal “movie expert” is nowhere to be seen.

And then, wouldn’t you know it, Movie Quote Guy ends up winning the whole thing for you, which means that you are now obligated to invite them back to join you next week.

That’s the challenge that the NEW YORKER presented to their readers the other day.  More specifically, especially as STAR WARS celebrates its 35th birthday, readers needed to summarize the plot to STAR WARS.

Sometimes, history will tell us, that our visionaries sometimes lack vision.

That’s what Christopher Cerf and Victor Navasky have to say in their book, I Wish I Hadn’t Said That: The Experts Speak – and Get it Wrong!  

In other words, just because you are super-smart and know what you’re talking about, it’s possible to blurt out your opinion on a topic and have that thrown back at you years later by people who want to point out how funny you sounded at the time. 

Let’s take a look at some examples:
