How many bras does the average woman own?

Pop quiz: How many bras does the average woman own?

An even better question is how many women own bras that they’ve never even worn?

With women lamenting the high cost of bras (well, good ones, at least), one would think that women would be more careful about ensuring that their underwear money… excuse us, lingerie money… goes to good use.

The answer comes from an online retailer who surveyed women about their bra-buying and wearing habits.

Will Apple Buy TiVo?

As long-time Web Watch readers know, we’ve been a huge fan and support of TiVo over the years.  We’re all set to pony up and buy the Tivo Premiere Elitewith 4 tuners and 2TB worth of recording space, once TiVo and the cable companies work out their On Demand issues.

But that was all before all the APPLE TV rumors started to crop up again this week.

And if these rumors about what 2012 will bring in terms of an Apple living room experience, we may need to reevaluate our decision to invest in another TiVo, no matter how much it pains us to consider this as an option.

So let’s dive into what the rumors are, as well as present our own wish list of what the ultimate APPLE TV experience should be, after the break.

Are you a Showroomer? When retail stores fight back against the Internet, we all lose

Showroom: The Saga of a Family, a Car Business and the Seven Deadly Sins
Showroom: The Saga of a Family, a Car Business and the Seven Deadly Sins

By now, Web Watch is sure that you’ve heard of the term “showrooming“, where consumers go to Target, Best Buy, or other major retailers simply to browse the aisles – cell phone in hand – with the explicit purpose to NOT buy anything that day.

Web Watch will admit, we’ve done this on plenty of occasions:  we go to an electronics department to look for a specific item — maybe so we can get a close-up of the box, or a better idea of the specs — and we do our own little bit of online price comparison.

What does it take to throw the ultimate Super Bowl Party? Lots of money.

The Billion Dollar Game: Behind the Scenes of the Greatest Day In American Sport - Super Bowl Sunday
The Billion Dollar Game:
Behind the Scenes of the Greatest Day In American Sport – Super Bowl Sunday

Web Watch loves watching the Super Bowl.  Yeah, we don’t often care what teams are playing – although we always cheer for the NFC – but we love the glory, the spectacle, the over-excess of the event itself.

And yes, we even get to watch a decent commercial or two.

The Big Game, Pigskin Party, Gridiron Madness — whatever you end up calling the Super Bowl, there is typically one thing on everybody’s mind when Super Bowl weekend comes barrelling through:  HOW DO YOU THROW THE ULTIMATE SUPER BOWL PARTY?

Amazon.com has the Best Customer Service. (Zappos ranks high, too)

Amazon.com Gift Card
Amazon.com Gift Card

When it comes to Customer Service, what retail companies come to mind?

We’ve heard countless stories about companies like Costco taking back anything that they sell, no matter how long ago you purchased it… but while Costco is an awesome place to shop, the long lines and lack of salespeople on the shopping floor can turn some potential shoppers off, as getting out of there with a purchase can be a bit more difficult than it needs to be.

Web Watch enjoys the staff at the local Home Depot and Lowe’s, but there are times when both stores struggle to answer our seemingly simple questions.

We do’t ask for much – we just want each shopping experience to be superior to the last outing.

Movie theaters react to NetFlix with new “Pay one price, see unlimited movies” http://movi.ps/vnQbFi

Why Popcorn Costs So Much at the Movies
Why Popcorn Costs so Much at the Movies

If you love going to the movies as much as Web Watch does, you’d be seeing at least two movies a week, every week for a year.

Granted not every film you see is going to be good.  And not all will be in genres that you always enjoy.

But you’ll definitely see all the great films, all the funny films, and all the films that people will be talking about the next day if you take the time to go to the theater regularly.

But not everyone can afford to spend $12 per movie ticket these days.  Seeing 2 films a week for 52 weeks can add up to over $1200/year… and that’s not counting parking, popcorn, sodas, snacks you sneak into the theater, beer (purchased at the fancy theaters that have a liquor license)… and you can count on doubling that if you go with a date.

$2400 a year, just to sit in the cool air-conditioned comfort of a big screen theatrical event with someone special a few times a week, every week of the year.

New high-tech underwear for women promises to keep you dry and odor-free

Knock Out Panties
Knock Out Panties

Angela Newman is a woman on a mission.

Much like the heralded Sara Blakely who created Spanx because she was looking for underwear and nylons that served a specific purpose (footless pantyhose, and super-supportive Spandex), Angela had an underwear problem that she wanted to solve.

Sour candies are bad for your teeth

Sour Skittles
Sour Skittles

Who doesn’t like a little sour candy once in a while?

We know one person who absolutely hates and loves all types of sour candies:  your local dentist.  They love the candy because candy of all sorts eventually leads to cavities and more patients.  They hate the sour candies because of what they do to tooth enamel, simply as a matter of the high levels of acidity required to give you that mouth-puckering sour taste.

Web Watch has a friend who regularly jokes that he has a lack of adequate tooth enamel because of something his mother did (or didn’t do) while he was growing in the womb.  While there might be some truth to that, he should also take into account the types of candy that he chooses to eat.

The free $500 Red Star WorldWear gift card – is it worth it?

Rock Star Sunglasses
Rock Star Sunglasses

So the other day, Web Watch was flipping through one of our myriad of magazine subscriptions when one of those annoying response card things fell into our lap.

But before we could toss it away as we do all the others, we noticed there was something different about it.  This one had gift card attached to it.

A $500 gift card.

“Whoa,” we said.  What did we do to deserve this, other than subscribe to a magazine or two?

Not all honey is created equal: do you know what’s in YOUR honey?

Organic Rainforest Honey
Organic Rainforest Honey

Do you know what’s in YOUR jar of honey that’s in your pantry?

Chances are, you just went to the store and purchased whatever honey was on the shelf and brought it home, without bothering to worry about what is actually in that cute plastic bear squeeze bottle.

And since honey is one food that doesn’t spoil, chances are that you’ve had that same jar of honey for a few years — and doesn’t it look just as crystal clear now as it did when you first purchased it?
