Flash Fun: Rock Band Simulator

One thing that ROCK BAND and GUITAR HERO are missing is the ability to control all the other aspects of band life:

  • Picking who is in your band (well, that’s dependent on your friends, and what if all your friends suck at Guitar Hero?)
  • Recording albums or releasing singles
  • Dealing with the recording studio
  • Working the press, managing your band’s hype
  • Are you a corporate sellout?

Game: Here’s the Plot, Guess the Story

Post Modern Barney has compiled the WORST PLOT SUMMARIES EVER WRITTEN, and summed up a few dozen movies and books into bite-size nuggets.

The twist is that these are not your traditional plot summaries, but rather a synopsis of the more lurid details of the story.  Unfortunately, many of the hundreds of commenters on the original post think that the idea is to write about how the story ends.  This is not always the case.

I’ll give you the plot summary, all you have to do is guess the name of the story it came from.  Click the link for the answers.

Game: Guess the BMG Music Catalog CD

A while ago we posted a GUESS THE CD game, where players would have to guess the name of the CD based on the track listing that you provide.

Here’s a variation on the theme: guessing the song based on the listing provided in the BMG Music Catalog sales brochure.

You don’t remember the BMG (or Columbia House) Music Club?

<old man voice>Yeah, I remember when we had to purchase our music the old-fashioned way, through the mail.  We’d have to go through a magazine listing and select the CDs, albums, audio cassettes, or 8-track tapes that we’d like to purchase; send in a postcard with a penny taped to it; and in 4-to-6 weeks, a package would arrive containing our selections… and we’d be lucky if they got the shipment right, or if they were in original packaging instead of being labeled as “special to Columbia House”.  We didn’t have any of this new-fangled instant over the Internet-get the music instantly kind of crap.  We had to work at getting our music.  And we liked it.</old man voice>

Game: Broken Picture Telephone

BROKEN PICTURE TELEPHONE is a free web-based party game, a variation of the old “Telephone” game you played as kids at a 5-year-old’s birthday party at Shakey’s Pizza back in the day.

The Telephone Game was where everyone would sit around the table, and the first person would come up with some silly tongue twister or crazy saying.  They would then whisper the phrase to the person next to them, who would then have to whisper it to the person next to them, and so on and so on until the last person says whatever was whispered to them.  The hope is that the original phrase will make it around the table intact, but it never seemed to work out that way.

Broken Picture Telephone (aka “BPT”) is sort of like that, but with a twist:

Game: Guess the Mix

Here’s another game you can play on long car rides:  GUESS THE MIX.

Come up with a themed mixtape consisting of 10 songs.  The theme can be anything you’d like:  cars, breakups, cooking, songs that feature cowbell…anything you’d like the theme to be.

There are three ways to play this:

  1. Play the mix for your friends.  This option allows everyone to hear the songs that you’ve chosen, and is the best version to play if your friends do not have a large musical brain to pull from.
  2. Tell your friends the track titles.  This option is for the more experienced player, as they will need to know what those songs sound like on their own.
  3. Tell your friends only the artist names.  This is the most advanced option, as it will require your friends to determine what songs from those artists would combine into a single theme.  For hardcore players only.
