Be an adult – don’t touch a pregnant woman

Are you an adult?

If you were, then you would already know that there are certain responsibilities that you have now that you didn’t have when you were growing up.

Responsibilities such as how to act when you’re around pregnant women.

How to find out how much a taxi ride will cost you

So the other day, Web Watch was out on the road and needed to get from our hotel to a restaurant a few miles away.

We definitely had choices available, as taking a taxi wasn’t our only option — and we didn’t necessarily need to have door-to-door service as being dropped off anywhere in the general neighborhood would have been perfectly acceptable.

But being on a tight budget, we wanted to know ahead of time how much our taxi ride was going to cost us.

How to reach Inbox Zero

Inbox Zero.

Web Watch hears this phrase thrown about at the office by managers who feel overwhelmed by the constant influx of arriving email messages.

All they want to do is get their email inbox to read “0 messages”…. and hopefully keep it that way.

Web Watch understands the desire to have 0 waiting messages, but INBOX ZERO is a goal that not everyone can achieve — especially us, who receives upwards of 1000 emails a day across multiple email accounts.   Granted, the vast majority of those messages are ones that can either be filed away or deleted without even being read or addressed — but that still is going to leave a few hundred emails each day that still need to be processed in some manner.

Yeah, achieving INBOX ZERO isn’t always possible for everybody…

Only 15% of Americans avoid food poisoning by doing just one thing

Having food poisoning is not pretty, either for you or those around you.

Web Watch knows – the one time it hit us, we were trying to enjoy a group outing while on a trip away from home.  You’d be surprised how quickly getting that ill, that quickly will identify who your real traveling companions are (hint: that number is close to zero during that time period — when it comes to food poisoning, you’re going to be mainly on your own).

So what can you do to avoid getting food poisoning?

Unfortunately, the majority of food poisoning occurs while you’re away from home, eating at restaurants with poor health scores or who happened to receive tainted food themselves.

In other words, when you’re eating out, there’s not much you can do if someone serves you bad food that really, really disagrees with you.

How to find out how much your domain name is worth

“How much is my domain name worth?”

It’s a common question that Web Watch is often asked, and surprisingly comes up in more casual conversations than you may think one would experience in an average week.

Of course, let’s get the important piece out of the way:  you DO own a domain name or two, don’t you?

If not, you know you can always buy one from any number of domain name registrars that you may find online.

Right.  So now you have that ultimate, desirable domain name.   So what next?  Are domain names really good investments?

4 Things Women Should NOT Do At Work

Over the years, Web Watch has worked for both male and female bosses.   And we would be the first to tell you that there are distinct differences between the managerial styles of both.

Some of them were very good at what they did; others, not quite so much.  And some of that we definitely can chalk up to the individual’s personalities.

But not always.

Sometimes, the individual was more of the “in it to win it” style of management. Take no prisoners, rule with a firm, but iron-clad fist.   And that was okay too.

And we’ve seen both men and women be taken down by their leadership skills (or lack thereof – again, depending on the person).

Practicing proper bathroom etiquette

Web Watch was talking with a friend of ours the other day, and they had this to share about their home bathroom experience:

It’s my belief that while at home, the person who uses the toilet last is obligated to ensure that they leave the bowl clean for the next occupant.  It should not be the obligation of the next in line to take care of business for the previous pooper.

They then went on a rant about how their partner doesn’t give the bowl a second look while on their way out the door, leaving any extraneous flushing and/or plunging to someone else.

This ended up turning into a huge argument between the two of them that night, which – while slightly uncomfortable to witness firsthand – will be an amusing discussion topic amongst the Web Watch circle for years to come.  One side comment along the way was

I’d rather stick my own hand in the water than have someone else plunge my poo.

Which reminds us of another question regarding how much one should tip the hotel maintenance staff for having to make an after-hours plunger delivery to ones hotel room.  We were told $10 was the going rate, but something tells me you could get by with just $5.

But we digress.
