How bad is your office bathroom? So bad that nobody wants to wash their hands there

Web Watch has seen some pretty stinky office bathrooms, both literally and figuratively.

There was one office bathroom where you had to get the key from the receptionist at the front desk, as locking the door was the only way to keep non-employees from using a bathroom that they weren’t supposed to have access to.  We’re sure the receptionist didn’t like knowing each individual’s bathroom habits any more than we liked having to share them with her.

There was the office restroom that didn’t have any stall doors.

The bathroom that perpetually smelled like rotten fish.

And then there was the building that had a serial pooper.  Every two weeks or so, a stranger would wander into the building and spread feces all over the men’s and women’s restrooms.  This went on for about three months, until security was finally able to identify the mentally-challenged person and have them taken to a location that could help them.

So when Web Watch says that we know a bad office bathroom situation when we see – or smell – one, believe it.

Do you prefer to work alone? There’s a job for you out there…

Do you consider yourself a “people person”, or do you prefer to spend your working time alone – whether because you can get more done when you’re working by yourself or for some other, personal reason?

Some people just don’t do well working in groups.  “Plays well with others” doesn’t apply to you.

Name something you should have on your desk at work

Web Watch knows that not everyone has a standard “desk” job in an office.

You know – the one where you may be sitting in a cubical farm or an actual office (with a door), where you and your co-workers all get together to generate some sort of product for your company.

Some office managers frown upon personalizing one’s workspace, while companies like Pixar go out of their way to encourage as much creativity as possible (one Pixar employee build a speakeasy in the back of his cubicle area, complete with secret hidden entrance!).

Do barbershops and haircut salons sterilize their scissors between customers?

When was the last time you got your hair cut?

So you went to the salon of your choice (or local barbershop, or Hair Cuttery, Great Clips, Supercuts, Fantastic Sam’s, or even the neighbor down the street who happens to have the only working Flowbee in the surrounding 100 miles).  You sit down in the chair and settle in for your haircut.

And no matter what you pay, whether it be free, $9, $14, $45, or $150 — you all experience the same thing as you watch your Hair Professional pick up their trusty pair of scissors off their counter and approach your head with their fingers of steel…

“Did they sterilize those scissors after their last customer?”

Your dad’s not worth as much as your mom

You know how typically “Dad” is considered the primary breadwinner in most households, while “Mom” typically manages the home and kids?

Well, what if Web Watch told you that dollar-for-dollar, Mom is worth more than Dad is?

How to tell if you’re about to be fired

Getting fired is like a rite of passage.

Especially in today’s economic climate, if you haven’t been fired or laid off at least once in your professional career, you can consider yourself one of the lucky ones.

How bad is it out there for the unemployed?  Web Watch knows a number of people who have had difficulty trying to find a regular full-time job in their career of choice – some of whom are going on five years of unemployment.

Five years is a long-time to sit there and wonder when the economy is going to turn around – but frankly, the issue could be just as likely that the job those job-seekers are looking for isn’t available.  There are plenty of jobs to be had — the problem is whether those unemployed are willing to make an industry change, go back to school, or even move across the country if a job prospects are more available elsewhere.

Can YOU name the Top 100 Global Brands for 2012?

Even if you’re one of those Occupy Wall Streeters, complaining about everything that Big Business is doing to Keep You Down, chances are you’re also a little bit brand conscious.

Aside from the fact that the OWS movement went to all the trouble of ensuring that they have a trademark on “OCCUPY WALL STREET”, those 99% really aren’t any different from the rest of us.

They’re wearing name-brand clothing, purchased at a name-brand retailer.

They’re marketing their protest with Apple and Google phones, using Facebook and Twitter over cellular networks or purloined free WiFi connections that are setup/maintained/paid for by other corporations.

A protest is fine, and bringing attention to companies’ misdeeds is powerful — but don’t complain about how all businesses are bad if you have to rely on them in order to handle your protest in the first place.

See, it really IS all about branding and marketing, isn’t it?

The 10 Worst Job Uniforms for All Time

Some offices let their workers enjoy “casual Fridays”, where employees can trade in their khakis and button-down shirts for Levis and polo shirts.

Web Watch knows of one company where they require the staff to wear suits to work once a month (every other day is a “business casual” environment).

And don’t get Web Watch started on those companies we’ve visited where some women feel that flip-flops are appropriate for the office.  We already know that shouldn’t be allowed, no matter what organization you’re in.
