Where do Ticket Scalpers Get Their Tickets?

Nine Inch Nails’ lead singer Trent Reznor has not been shy in the past about airing his opinion about other musicians or the music industry in general.  More often than not, he’s been the one willing to talk about the elephant in the room that everyone else ignores.

So it should come as no surprise to anyone – let alone Nine Inch Nails fans – when TRENT POSTED A MESSAGE ON THE OFFICIAL NINE INCH NAILS MESSAGE BOARD explaining exactly what happens when NIN goes on tour with regards to what they do to minimize ticket scalping.  As part of Trent’s post, he includes a number of links to ticket scalping-related news articles that offer additional insight to the problem.

Must-See Video: The Daily Show’s Jim Cramer Interview

If you do not watch Jon Stewart on The Daily Show on a regular basis, you will miss out on the occasional must-see gem of an interview. 

It’s not often that you will find this type of good, informative, well-researched, engaging interview on what is, in essence, a comedy program.  But Jon’s interview with CNBC’s Jim Cramer is absolutely fantastic.

It is said that more college-age kids and young adults get their new and information from The Daily Show than from traditional media outlets.  With interviews like this, I can certainly see why. 

Well done, Jon.  Keep up the good work.

Why You Hate That Website

You hate that website because they came up with a way to make money off of their site and you haven’t figured out how to do the same thing with yours.

Two new book deals were announced today, both of them are based on websites previously featured here on Web Watch:

The BUSINESS INSIDER is reporting that Maxime Valette and Guillaume Passaglia’s website F*** MY LIFE, which is based on its own French website and book, is going into book form and will be published  in July 2009.  Not a bad way to turn someone else’s misery into dollars.

To top that off, another website that is based on reader’s submissions – THIS IS WHY YOU’RE FAT, is also getting the book treatment.  At the very least, they were upfront about saying that was what they were going to do — upfront to those who bothered to read the fine print, that is.

Making Money at Guitar Hero

If you’re a band trying to make it big by touring college campuses (like I LOVE COLLEGE‘s Asher Roth) or just waiting to sign a deal with a label (and finding out with a music royalty calculator that you owe more to the label than they’re paying you), then maybe you need to rethink your game.

Maybe you need to focus your energy on making music for Guitar Hero and not for CDs and MP3 downloads.

Why?  Because that’s where the real money is these days.  Video games and music tie-ins.  Heck, the music-related video games like Guitar Hero, Rock Band, and others pulled in US$2.3 billion in three years.

Same Sex Kiss Day at Starbucks

Want to kiss somebody in public on April 15th? 

Why not try your local Starbucks?  And while you’re at it, make sure the person you’re kissing is the same sex as you are.  Apparently, it’s an all-day affair.

Why Lefties Survive in a Right-Handed World

National Geographic has an article with a theory about lefties-vs-righties, entitled LEFTIES SURVIVE (BARELY) DUE TO ELEMENT OF SURPRISE? 

Left-handed people have disadvantages.  Over the years, lefties are more apt to suffer from schizophrenia, epilepsy, autism, or have learning disabilities.  They are more likely to have a serious accident, as most of the world is designed around righties.  Male lefties are also shorter, on average.

However, scientists have determined that lefties carry with them the ability to throw the other 90% of the world off their guard.  This is why left-handed people are often more successful in sports competition versus the more common right-handed folks.  Baseball pitchers, batters, tennis players, boxers – the left-handed ones are often prized and in high-demand. 

They also say that left-handed men earn more than right-handed men, on average.  Lefties also have better coordination, and often have IQs higher than 131.

Michael Jackson Auction Update

Remember the post we had a while ago about the upcoming MICHAEL JACKSON AUCTION?

The AP is reporting that maybe things aren’t exactly as rosy as they appear, and the auction may not happen after all, as Michael Jackson’s production company, MJJ Productions, is suing Julien’s Auction House.

The lawsuit claims that while they did ask the auction company to remove all those items that appear in the auction catalog from the Neverland Ranch, but claims that they did not give blanket authorization to sell the items without Michael Jackson’s permission on each one.

Some of the “priceless and irreplaceable” items were requested to be returned, which the auction company did.  No word yet on exactly which items are being removed from the auction due to the lawsuit, or how much of the auction is going to continue as previously planned.
