This is why we are broke

Ever look at your bank account statement (or ATM balance) and wonder where all your money went?

Look around your house, and all you see is generic stuff that you really could live without?

Contemplate why you bother with that $5 daily coffee break when the free coffee in the office really isn’t that bad?

What’s the best AA battery?

Web Watch had a rough childhood.

Our father was a bit of a tinkerer. A gadget-guy.  (Still is, actually.)

He loves to put things through their paces, then take them apart to see how they worked or if they could be improved upon.

For a while, when we were young, he was infatuated with battery-operated devices – like toys.  So he’d go out and buy the latest, greatest battery-operated toy (even better if it was a rechargeable battery).  And Web Watch would get to play with the toy for as long as we wanted to.

Go ahead.  Have fun with that.

Until Dad decided that it was time for him to take the toy apart and see what made it last as long as it did on that single battery charge.

Web Watch went through a lot of battery-operated toys during that time.  Sure, we got to play with all of them, but only for like a day.

What do 76% of adults do while driving their car?

Everyone likes to think of themselves as a good driver.

So ask your friends the next time you’re at a party: how many people have ever gotten into an accident?  Caused an accident?  Gotten a speeding ticket?

Got the speeding ticket for the highest speed over the limit?

You’d be surprised to hear all these driving horror stories from your friends, yet they would still consider themselves “good drivers”.

How surprised should you be?  If your friends are anything like those in a recent survey – 99% of those surveyed all believe that they’re good drivers.

And yet there are a lot of idiots out on the road.  We can’t all be great drivers, can we?

60% of web surfing is done via a mobile device

Do you have an iPad, Android tablet, or netbook?  Are you glued to your iPhone, Android device, or Blackberry?

Web Watch is going to take a wild guess that you’re not just using those devices for making phone calls or using them exclusively for business.

What type of smartphone are you using? (Some people don’t know…)

Without looking, can you tell Web Watch what type of phone you have?

Who made it?  What operating system it’s running?

Well, chances are — because Web Watch readers tend to be smarter than the average bear — you can tell us what type of phone you have.  You may not get the operating system quite right, and a few of you may not know your phone’s manufacturer.

Well, it ends up that not knowing may put you in the majority.

Old people shouldn’t drive with cruise control turned on

The other day, Web Watch was talking with some older relatives about a recent checkup that they had with their doctor.

Health-wise, everything’s fine… but when the doctor asked if they had made any lifestyle changes in the past year, they said that they had made one change: they’ve stopped using their car’s cruise control feature.

How to test a toilet using the Bristol Stool Scale

With all of today’s technology, one common household feature can also be one of the most frustrating.

Yes, we’re talking about the toilet. More specifically, your toilet’s flushing ability.

(Did you know that there are seven different types of poop?   We’ll get back to this in a moment…)

One thing that Web Watch always makes note of when we’re staying at hotels across the country is whether the hotel’s engineering staff “get it” in terms of providing adequate flushing power for their guests.  We were so impressed at the flushing prowess at one hotel that we went so far as to take a look in the tank to see what magic flushing mechanism was inside (in that case, it was a professional pressurized unit – all the more likely to not break by curious guests like ourselves).

Worse is when we have to report to the hotel’s front desk about the poor toilet situation in our room.  We often wonder is it an isolated situation in our room, or is it something that’s more common across the whole floor or entire hotel.  Sadly, we never do get the chance to get the answer to this.

The Internet is for Porn

Admit it – you’ve looked at naked people online, even if it was only accidentally.

And there are some of you who purposefully go out of your way to look for online porn photos.  It’s okay, we won’t report you — looking at naked adults of consenting age and profession is perfectly healthy… or so we’ve been told by the collegiate Human Sexuality 101 class we took a few years ago.

But it seems that everywhere you look online, you have to be wary of running across Yet Another Porn Site.  Heck, just turn off Google Safesearch while viewing image search results, and you’ll be inundated with naked bodies across your screen no matter what your original search term happened to be.

Which brings up one question that Web Watch was asked recently:
