Hey Buddy – Want to Buy a Used MP3?

Now that a new  iPhone is available, isn’t it time for you to go out and grab some nice shiny new MP3 files to use on the new iPhone?  You don’t want to use your old dingy files, you prefer that “new MP3” smell when the songs come fresh out of the store.

But the problem is that now you have a huge pile of MP3 files that you never listen to anymore, just gathering dust.  You’ve paid good money for them over at the iTunes or Amazon stores, and you’re not going to just throw them away.

What do you do?

Come Jump On The Bed With Me

The best thing about checking into some of the newer, higher-end hotels is that they really are promoting their “high-thread count linens” or “superior mattresses” (which some hotels will even sell to you at the end of your stay, if you absolutely loved your mattress so much that you just had to take it home with you).

The Radisson chain, for example, is promoting that they have the SLEEPNUMBER bed.  The last time I stayed at a Radisson, I didn’t find the SleepNumber Bed that remarkable, especially since the maid had lodged the controller between the bedframe and the headboard amongst all the evil hotel room dustbunnies that never seem to get vacuumed up.

Ew.

Perhaps if I had tried the bed at the SleepNumber store at the mall, like everyone else does, I would have had a better night’s sleep.

Twitter Users are a Bunch of Quitters… and other Twitter Usage Statistics

A report came out this week about Twitter, regarding how users new to Twitter use the service, a STATE OF THE TWITTERSPHERE, if you will.

In short, the conclusion is that the vast majority of Twitter accounts are inactive at best.  Some users sign in and tweet just once, resulting in an ORPHAN TWEET.  If you happen to run across one yourself, feel free to retweet it with the #orphantweet hashtag.

The bigger question, however, is how prevelant are these orphan tweets?   Consider this:  as in real-life, so goes Twitter:  the top 10% of the most active Twitter users account for over 90% of the overall Twitter traffic.

Movie Review: The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3

Rated: R for violence, language, and suspense

Rating: B-

THE TAKING OF PELHAM 1 2 3 is based on the book of the same name that also spawned a film from the mid 70’s starring Walter Matthau and a television movie starring Edward James Olmos.   So at least you know that the source material is pretty solid going into this.

The Carbon Footprint of a Cheeseburger

Earlier this week in Web Watch, we mentioned how 15,000 Google searches used the same amount of energy as it took to create a single cheeseburger.   (And this even ties in with yesterday’s Best Fast-Food Burger post – welcome to Burger Week on Web Watch!)

Some people asked Web Watch where we got that burger energy information from, so we thought we’d look into it.  CAN CREATING A CHEESEBURGER REALLY USE UP THAT MUCH ENERGY?  Yes, it can.

Survey: What’s Your Favorite Fast Food?

ZAGAT surveyed 6,100 hungry fast-food and full-service restaurant patrons about their favorite places to eat, and has finally compiled and released the results for 2009.

The best fast-food hamburger, which should come as no surprise to anyone who has eaten there, is from IN-N-OUT BURGER.   Best burger from a full-service restaurant came from RED ROBIN.

The other fast-food winners included:

How Much Energy Does Google Use?

Google, being a company based on computers and data centers and other electronic stuff, is often asked about how energy-efficient they are.

After all, Google’s mantra is “Don’t Be Evil”.

So Google engineers did some number crunching and DETERMINED HOW MUCH ENERGY A GOOGLE SEARCH TAKES as related to the amount of CO2 that is generated.

Fancy Fast Food

Eating at a fast food restaurant is not the most exhilirating experience.

Plastic forks and spoons (unless you’re lucky enough to get a spork), paper-lined plastic trays that have just barely been cleaned – if you count being wiped down by the dirty soap rag that also wipes down the fry machine as being cleaned, and harsh flourescent lighting that makes the drippy pasteurized processed cheese spread substitute look so appealing.
