Today’s suggestion: look under your vehicle for penguins

Opus the PenguinA sign on the wall that says “Look under your vehicle for penguins” has to have some sort of backstory that the average person just wouldn’t know about.

Of course, these are the types of signs that Web Watch finds over at ODDLY SPECIFIC, a website devoted to capturing those signs around the world that are so specific on a topic that they become funny.

Things Google Knows About You: Everything

Google Search and DestroyGoogle knows a lot about you.

If you use Google to search the web, then Google knows what you are looking for.

If you use Google’s GMAIL service, then Google knows who your circle of friends and family are, and the types of things that you email about (based on the Ad Words displayed alongside your messages).

Google owns Doubleclick, a leader in online advertising, so Google knows some of the sites that you are visiting (unless you opt-out of the Doubleclick tracking cookie, of course).

If you are using their new open DNS server 8.8.8.8, then Google can even track where you go on the web, whether you use their search engine or not.  (An aside:  Web Watch strongly encourages that you do have a secondary DNS server available to you in case your primary DNS server goes down, whether it be Google’s DNS server or someone else’s open DNS.)

Want to cook like a professional chef? Set your TiVo on Dec 15 for “Gordon Ramsay: Cookalong Live”

Gordon Ramsay Kitchen NightmaresWeb Watch has enjoyed watching Gordon Ramsay yell at both potential and actual restaurant employees for years on HELL’S KITCHEN and KITCHEN NIGHTMARES, respectively.

And in the end, we wholeheartedly agree with the yelling, as he is yelling for good reason the majority of the time.  All Gordon wants is to bring out the best in people.

So while you may not agree with his methods, you can agree that when it comes to food he does know what he’s talking about.

Which is why FOX has decided to import yet another British series for Ramsay that shows a decidedly softer side of the typically angry chef in GORDON RAMSAY: COOKALONG LIVE, airing live on FOX on December 15th.

The Ugly Truth about Music Royalties from TOO MUCH JOY’s Tim Quirk

Too Much Joy - Cereal KillersTOO MUCH JOY was a band in the early 90’s that not a lot of people knew about, although they had a reputation for being one of the best live bands around.  Web Watch knows this first-hand, having been lucky enough to have the chance to see them play more than a few times over the years.

If you’ve seen the film SHAKES THE CLOWN, then you’ve heard TMJ’s song “CLOWNS” (which also was part of a lawsuit brought by Bozo the Clown).  Web Watch recalls that “CRUSH STORY” was used on some television special about teen idols in 1992 or so.   And fans of magicians Penn & Teller should know about the band, as Penn as praised TMJ repeatedly in print and has sat in with the guys in the studio, and Teller directed one of the band’s music videos.

In other words, Too Much Joy has been around the block a few times.  They’ve released a few albums, made national news covering other people’s songs, had some radio play, have celebrity fans, and have done pretty well for themselves in the subsequent years.  They’ve even been called “sell-outs” by some of their fans.  What’s not to love?

Tim Quirk, lead singer of Too Much Joy and now an executive at the music streaming service Rhapsody, knows the answer to that question:  the music royalties.

A new holiday treat: Turbaconducken! (Order yours today)

turduckenEveryone jokes about ubiquitious holiday food, from the green bean casserole to the fruitcake.

But no other holiday food has garnered as much interest as the TURDUCKEN, an epicurean concoction of a deboned chicken stuffed inside of a deboned duck, stuffed inside a turkey.

Who wants a roadtrip? LIFE names the top “must do” sporting events

Running of the BullsWe’ve all watched the infamous RUNNING OF THE BULLS festival from Spain, and just like Billy Crystal, have thought about what it would take to actually go through with the suggestion and run with the bulls ourselves.

Web Watch is not one of those who have felt the need to participate.  Watch and cheer, sure.  But from the safety of some balcony overlooking the craziness.

LIFE magazine has released their list of the TOP 34 MUST-SEE SPORTING EVENTS AND SPORT LOCATIONS.  To them, this represents the ultimate sports “bucket list” that everyone should attempt to complete.

How many of the Top 10 Movie Flops of the past 10 years have YOU seen? (Our count: 5)

Pluto Nash What makes a movie a hit or a miss?

How do we know that a movie is destined to be considered a flop?  Is it a film that has absolutely the most horrible reviews ever?   Or is it based solely on box office success or failure?  What if it is horribly reviewed and bombs at the box office, but finds a new lease on life at midnight screenings or on DVD?

Yahoo News has released their list of the TOP TEN BIGGEST MOVIE FLOPS OF THE DECADE.  As they have so nicely pointed out in the article, all such lists are subjective at best.  That being said – here are the films that made Yahoo’s list of biggest losers:

Bagels are more dangerous than wedding cakes. Coincidence?

Bagel Guillotine SlicerWeb Watch loves a good bagel.

We know that the best bagel places are always right next door to the city’s best chinese restaurants.  We don’t know why this is (shrimp & lobster sauce is kosher, right?), but we’ve seen the two together more often than not.

So of course we read THE HISTORY OF THE BAGEL GUILLOTINE SLICER in the Wall Street Journal, where we learned about the most dangerous foods that cause the most emergency room visits.
