It’s North vs South in personality wars. (The West? Not so much)

Web Watch was having a conversation the other day about what it was like to conduct business – sales, really – in various parts of the country.

One of our friends chimed in that there is a distinct difference between business styles when he visits New York and other northern locales compared to when he travels to the south.  In the south things are more relaxed, personal, and a bit slower paced. People tend to care about people first, then they’ll get down to business.

Visits out to the West?  Those, he said, were full of feel-good, granola folks.

Where does the wind blow across the US?

What’s the one topic of conversation that you can always have with a stranger that you can have with your parents?

“HOW’S THE WEATHER?” (or variations to that effect)  It’s too warm, cold, wet, dry.

Everyone has an opinion on the weather, what it should be and what it was.  It effects pretty much everybody in some manner.

Hotel guests prefer coffee over sex

Even the worst hotels in the country offer two things in every hotel room: a bed, and a coffee pot.

Now, that’s not to say that the bed is going to be the cleanest or most comfortable, and the same can be said for the coffee pot’s cleanliness status.

But at least the coffee is typically available in a single-serve package that (one hopes) hasn’t been tampered with.

How many of you went to college?  More importantly – how many of you are still paying off your student loans?

Perhaps the size of your outstanding student loan payments can be directly related to what school you went to versus the career you chose.

Why do people move?

Web Watch has always heard that in order to succeed at your career, you should always move whenever the company asked you to change locations.

And while that works for large-scale, across-the-country type stuff, Web Watch is fascinated by those people we know who just decide to move down the street for no real reason at all.  We know plenty of people who change apartments on a whim, or move within a mile or two of their current home just because they felt like it.

We also know people who bought a house next door to their childhood home, in order to stay close to their parents and friends in the local area.

When it comes to crowdsourced reviews, which websites should you trust?

Whenever Web Watch wants to try a new restaurant in a new city, we turn to our online resources for hints and tips from the locals — because you should always eat where the locals eat.

Usually, the online reviews we find are relatively accurate.  In one place we ate at recently, the review said to avoid the paella.  We should have listened – it really wasn’t that good.
