Study says – Spanking can lead to mental illness

Parents: how do you punish your children when they get out of line and you need to make a quick disciplinary action?

Do you count to three, but don’t have any idea what to do when you reach the number four, five, or ten?

Sometimes spanking – or, at the very least, a quick swat on the butt to get a child’s attention – is the method of last resort for some parents.  Look, whether you agree with spanking or not, parents should agree that the reason spanking has survived as long as it has over the generations is because it works.

While the old adage of “this hurts me more than it hurts you” may come into your mind if you decide to spank your child, that may not necessarily be true anymore.

The Family Bed: More than just sleeping happens there

Call it what you will: the FAMILY BED, COSLEEPING, or just being a parent who loves the comfort that sleeping near their children brings to them — sharing the parental bed as a family can be very beneficial to uniting the family unit – just as it may seem a bit unusual to those parents who don’t follow the same practice.

The Family Bed is different from having all the kids jump into the bed with their parents because they’re sick, had a nightmare, or are scared of the big thunderstorm that’s going on outside.

Web Watch will let our readers learn about what the Family Bed is – and isn’t – on their own.  We’re here to talk about it in a slightly different manner…

Proof that making a hit pop song is more science than luck

Over the past few years, Web Watch has covered all sorts of information about what makes a pop song a hit.

We’ve talked about how you ONLY NEED FOUR CHORDS TO WRITE THE PERFECT POP SONG, how the KEY OF A SONG CAN PREDICT ITS POPULARITY, that MOST POP SONGS ARE ABOUT SEX, and even what the PERFECT SONG LENGTH should be for a hit song.

But now we have some science to thank for proving that everything Web Watch has told you in the past is absolutely true.  See?  It pays to read Web Watch and be on the cutting edge of everything!

Are you smart? Maybe it all depends on where you live…

Do you consider yourself a smart person?

If you’re reading this (or anything on the Internet), one would assume that the answer is “yes”. Only smart people bother to use the Internet — and only the smartest of the smart will read Web Watch.

So “hi!” to all of our smart readers out there.

But seriously, studiest have shown that sometimes what your intelligence level is can be dictated by the environment you surround yourself with.  In other words – generally speaking – if you hang out with smart people (or dumb people), then you will eventually become smarter (or dumber) through association.

At the very least, just to keep up with those you hang out with.

But a new study proves this even better…

It’s true, because women said so: length doesn’t matter. Girth does.

Men — How do you feel about your junk?  Are you satisfied with what you have?

More importantly – is your partner satisfied with what you have?

Well, new research shows that maybe they aren’t as pleased with what you’re packing as you may think.   None of this should really be a surprise to anyone, but when we finally have facts to back up what folks always joked about — now we have something to talk about.  Let’s read on…

The #1 reason why 80% of Facebook users should just quit Facebook tomorrow

Were you one of the lucky ones who decided to buy Facebook stock on opening day?

Lucky, only if you also sold it immediately.   If you decided to take a long approach of buy-and-hold, you’re probably cursing the banks and others that drove the IPO price as high as it did.

So it ends up that right now, Facebook doesn’t have a lot of fans.  For financial reasons, due to the rapidly declining stock price.  For personal reasons, by posting a legally-meaningless “you don’t have rights to access my profile” status update.

Look – it’s quite easy.  If you hate everything about Facebook — just stop using it.  Life marched on for years without Facebook, and life will continue to exist for you once you stop using it.

People who will only be your friend online and not IRL (that’s “in real life”) were not really your friends.  People who beg you to play Words with Friends with them but turn their noses up at playing a real-world game of Scrabble are not those you’d want to play against anyway.

Can YOU name the Top 100 Global Brands for 2012?

Even if you’re one of those Occupy Wall Streeters, complaining about everything that Big Business is doing to Keep You Down, chances are you’re also a little bit brand conscious.

Aside from the fact that the OWS movement went to all the trouble of ensuring that they have a trademark on “OCCUPY WALL STREET”, those 99% really aren’t any different from the rest of us.

They’re wearing name-brand clothing, purchased at a name-brand retailer.

They’re marketing their protest with Apple and Google phones, using Facebook and Twitter over cellular networks or purloined free WiFi connections that are setup/maintained/paid for by other corporations.

A protest is fine, and bringing attention to companies’ misdeeds is powerful — but don’t complain about how all businesses are bad if you have to rely on them in order to handle your protest in the first place.

See, it really IS all about branding and marketing, isn’t it?

4 things every car owner should do to make their car last forever

When was the last time you got your car’s oil changed?

Do you rely on that little sticker on the windshield to remind you of when you need to bring your car into the shop next?  Do you do it every 3,000 or 5,000 miles, whether you think you need an oil change or not?  Does your car have a little computer system to remind you once you’ve reached a certain mileage threshold of these basic maintenance tasks?

Face it – not everyone is as diligent with their car maintenance as they should be, and that could be why most cars you see on the road today are woefully in need of some TLC.

So why should you care?  Money experts say that the longer you can keep your car running and operational, the more money you’ll save over time for retirement.  The tipping point seems to hover around 10 years — if you can keep every car that you’ll ever own for at least 10 years before getting a new one, think of all the extra money you’ll save over continually being behind in car payments.

And for all those years that you’re not making car payments, you should be setting aside a little bit of money each month as if you DID have a car payment…. so that when it comes time to buying a new car again, you’ll have a significant amount of cash available to put down as a down payment — and you may even have enough to buy the car with cash outright and have no monthly car payment at all!

So now that you have a car (and you’ve had it for a number of years, longer than your neighbors have had theirs), what should you do to keep that car in tip-top long-lasting shape?
