This week I received my D23 membership card.

The mailer that came with the card said this:

We are thrilled you have joined us to celebrate the magic of Disney’s past, present, and future. Through D23, you will go backstage, behind closed doors and get the inside scoop from every part of Disney, while experiencing the nostalgia, adventure, and fantasy of Disney as never before.

Included here is your personalized membership card. Within 1-2 weeks you should receive your welcome letter, membership certificate, and first copy of Disney twenty-three. Your special gift from the Walt Disney Archives Collection will arrive separately.

Nine Inch Nails’ lead singer Trent Reznor has not been shy in the past about airing his opinion about other musicians or the music industry in general.  More often than not, he’s been the one willing to talk about the elephant in the room that everyone else ignores.

So it should come as no surprise to anyone – let alone Nine Inch Nails fans – when TRENT POSTED A MESSAGE ON THE OFFICIAL NINE INCH NAILS MESSAGE BOARD explaining exactly what happens when NIN goes on tour with regards to what they do to minimize ticket scalping.  As part of Trent’s post, he includes a number of links to ticket scalping-related news articles that offer additional insight to the problem.

Must-See Video: The Daily Show’s Jim Cramer Interview

If you do not watch Jon Stewart on The Daily Show on a regular basis, you will miss out on the occasional must-see gem of an interview. 

It’s not often that you will find this type of good, informative, well-researched, engaging interview on what is, in essence, a comedy program.  But Jon’s interview with CNBC’s Jim Cramer is absolutely fantastic.

It is said that more college-age kids and young adults get their new and information from The Daily Show than from traditional media outlets.  With interviews like this, I can certainly see why. 

Well done, Jon.  Keep up the good work.

Similarities in Disney Films

It’s nothing new to report that Disney animators (and animators in general) reuse pieces of animation in their various works.  Heck, computer programmers do the same thing by reusing code libraries so they don’t have to build the same thing from scratch every time. 

Have you even looked at a Garfield or Cathy panel lately?  Ack!  It’s almost the same thing every day.

Note that this is a different issue from the common “Disney stole my work” lawsuits that crop up every so often.

Why You Hate That Website

You hate that website because they came up with a way to make money off of their site and you haven’t figured out how to do the same thing with yours.

Two new book deals were announced today, both of them are based on websites previously featured here on Web Watch:

The BUSINESS INSIDER is reporting that Maxime Valette and Guillaume Passaglia’s website F*** MY LIFE, which is based on its own French website and book, is going into book form and will be published  in July 2009.  Not a bad way to turn someone else’s misery into dollars.

To top that off, another website that is based on reader’s submissions – THIS IS WHY YOU’RE FAT, is also getting the book treatment.  At the very least, they were upfront about saying that was what they were going to do — upfront to those who bothered to read the fine print, that is.
