Whatcha doing on October 6th? Why not take the Caine’s Arcade “Cardboard Challenge”?

Hopefully by now, you’ve heard the story about Caine Monroy and the arcade he made in his dad’s shop, where all the games were made entirely out of cardboard.

No?  It’s a phenomenal story.  Here – watch this, then continue…

Math is hard; let’s go shopping!

There’s a running joke at Web Watch about one’s ability – or inability – to handle math that’s more advanced than the basic multiplication table.

We’ve counted on our fingers in public more often than we care to note, and we are often despised at the blackjack tables — not because we don’t know the rules of the game or make the incorrect strategy decisions, but rather because we slow the game down tremendously while we determine whether we should hit or stay on a 6 of clubs and an 8 of hearts vs a dealer’s up-card of 4.

Yeah, 6+8 shouldn’t be a difficult piece of math to remember, but sometimes things aren’t as easy as they look.

How well do you know world events and politics? (Chances are, not well at all)

Were you one of those kids who really excelled at Social Studies in grade school?

Do you sit there and read through the World Almanac every year?

Can you entertain others at a cocktail party with your ability to name every foreign president in alphabetical order?

Yeah, we didn’t think so.  Kids who can do that kind of stuff are pretty much dorks.

School Suspensions Do Not Work

Web Watch remembers a few times that we had to sit through a few after-school suspensions.  We certainly don’t remember the exact cause of having to sit, Breakfast Club-like, in a classroom and “consider our actions”.

We’re sure that we were wrongly accused, completely innocent – whatever it was.  Perhaps we need to check out our PERMANENT RECORD someday, to see what horrors we bestowed on our fellow students or faculty.

It’s the world’s first Potty Training Restaurant!

Kimberly Decker from Utah is fast with her camera phone.

She was having a nice, leisurely meal with her family when she noticed another customer at the Thanksgiving Point Deli do something a bit more unusual than merely pull up a high chair for their child to sit in to eat.

How much money do kids make with allowance?

A question for all the parents who read Web Watch: how much money do you pay your kids in an allowance?

One would think this would be a simply question to answer, but it’s really a bit more complicated than one would think.

Are you the type of parent who pays an allowance to their children, no matter what?  Or do you only pay an allowance as payment for specific jobs being done around the house?

How young is too young to get married?

We all have heard about young couples getting married straight out of high school, 18-year-olds who just KNOW that the person they’re marrying is The One for them.

And then there’s the Doug Hutchinsonand Courtney Stodden wedding, where the then 16-year-old Courtney married the 51-year-old actor.   And while there is a significant age difference between Doug and Courtney, we can say that their love has outlasted at least one Kardashian marriage.  So they do have that going for them.

But you should recall that when Courtney and Doug got hitched, there was a huge public outcry over not just their age difference, but also how Courtney’s mother gave permission for her 16-year-old daughter to go through with the marriage in the first place.

Look, if it was true love, Courtney and Doug could have waited two more years until she turned 18.  Then, while still having a little bit of the creepy factor, it would at least be a legal union between adults rather than an arrangement with a minor (albeit one with parental approval).

Want kids to eat more fruits and vegetables? It’s all about cartoon marketing

Look, we all know that kids today are a little on the plump side.

They don’t like to exercise, they don’t like to eat anything but fast food.

Blame it on MTV, video games, and Ronald McDonald.

But there’s a reason for it – and it may have something to do with the same reason that Sugar Smacks had to be changed to just Smacks on the cereal aisle.
