Peeing in Space, Revisited: How Urine May Power Space Flight

The other day, Web Watch had the privilege of having dinner with a former NASA engineer, and as is often the case with this gentleman, the inevitable topic of using the bathroom in the confines of the Space Shuttle or the International Space Station came up.

Not by us, of course.  He was the one to first broach the subject, which we found a little odd, especially over dinner.

When children are afraid of poo (and other parenting advice)

Are you a parent of a small child or toddler?

As quite a few of Web Watch’s parental friends have found out, you aren’t a parent until you experience your child pooping during bathtime.

It happens, they say. Perfectly normal.

How to convert pee to electricity

With natural disasters and other causes leading to disruptions of the nation’s power grid, more and more homeowners are looking at alternative ways to power their homes when the electricity goes out.

Some people that Web Watch knows have decided to install gas or diesel-powered generators at their homes, or otherwise have a large backup battery available to keep the lights and computer network going for more than a day or two.  Web Watch does support having alternative backup power available in some circumstances, but does wonder whether rushing into such a purchase is a prudent choice, rather than making a calculated decision as to whether you NEED to have such emergency power available to your household or not.

A urine taster knows what your pee says about you

Be honest – have you ever tasted your own pee, either on purpose or by accident?

Don’t be shy – we know that there’s at least one of you out there who’ve done it.  Astronauts have – their on-board drinking water is partially made from recycled urine.

It’s the world’s first Potty Training Restaurant!

Kimberly Decker from Utah is fast with her camera phone.

She was having a nice, leisurely meal with her family when she noticed another customer at the Thanksgiving Point Deli do something a bit more unusual than merely pull up a high chair for their child to sit in to eat.

Who’s going to win the Best Bathroom in America contest?

They say that you can tell a lot about a place of business (whether it be a fancy hotel, a fast-food restaurant, or your neighbor’s house — assuming your neighbor’s place would be considered a place of business) just by looking at their bathroom.

If the bathroom is dirty, then it’s likely the rest of the establishment isn’t being kept up-to-par.

If it’s a sparkly-clean restroom, then you can tell that the business cares about their customers.

How bad is your office bathroom? So bad that nobody wants to wash their hands there

Web Watch has seen some pretty stinky office bathrooms, both literally and figuratively.

There was one office bathroom where you had to get the key from the receptionist at the front desk, as locking the door was the only way to keep non-employees from using a bathroom that they weren’t supposed to have access to.  We’re sure the receptionist didn’t like knowing each individual’s bathroom habits any more than we liked having to share them with her.

There was the office restroom that didn’t have any stall doors.

The bathroom that perpetually smelled like rotten fish.

And then there was the building that had a serial pooper.  Every two weeks or so, a stranger would wander into the building and spread feces all over the men’s and women’s restrooms.  This went on for about three months, until security was finally able to identify the mentally-challenged person and have them taken to a location that could help them.

So when Web Watch says that we know a bad office bathroom situation when we see – or smell – one, believe it.

The dirtiest item in your hotel room is not the TV remote control

Web Watch has told you about DIRTY HOTEL ROOMS before.

And you all know people who travel with a Ziploc bag in their luggage, specifically to use with the TV remote control, as Web Watch has mentioned that the TV remote in a hotel room is pretty much germ central.

But it ends up that the hotel room TV remote is NOT the dirtiest item in your dirty hotel room.
