As Web Watch has mentioned previously, we were done with this year’s holiday shopping weeks ago. And let us tell you – there really is something about having that big checkmark off our list to really take a load of stress off of our shoulders.

We can drive by the mall or to the local Target or Wal-Mart and laugh and laugh at everyone else struggling to push their shopping buggy through the crowded throngs while we saunter around with our one or two items that we just happened to need to run in and get.

Like, we CAN go into Home Depot for a pack of light bulbs or batteries, and not be concerned about wasting time wondering what to get Crazy Uncle Dan this year that he won’t injure himself with.

So we hear that you may have bought a lottery ticket or two recently, hoping to maybe win big.

Hey – it could happen. It only takes one set of numbers to win, right? And somebody’s going to win the lottery eventually – it can’t keep growing forever without a winner, as that would end up decreasing sales if customers ever figured out that nobody ever wins.

That’s why we still bother to try, because while the chances of winning the lottery drawing are practically nil, it’s still a one in millions chance of hitting… and that’s better odds than not bothering to buy a ticket in the first place.

As we get deeper into the Holiday Gift Giving season, perhaps its time to take a moment to reflect on whether that wine accessory really is something that the recipient would appreciate.

The way Web Watch sees it, if you’re going to give a wine enthusiast a gift, you might as well give them a bottle of wine that either YOU like (so you can then say, “hey, let’s open that bottle I just gave you”) or a bottle of wine that you know THEY’LL like in the hopes that they will open that bottle and share with you anyway.

Funny thing about giving a gift of wine – you’ll probably end up having some of it anyway.

The Internet is free, right? You have to pay to be online, but once you’re there – the millions of pages of information out there should be yours for the viewing, without being blocked by persistently annoying advertising invading your viewspace.

Web Watch is in a quandray over this – we’re supported by advertising on the site, so why would we want to share with you one simple, easy way to completely block all ads from ever appearing on your computer or WiFi-enabled devices ever again? If this idea takes off, we’ll have to switch to a subscription-based model – but we’d rather not go that route if we can help it.
