A while back, Web Watch wrote about the UNDERWEAR ECONOMIC INDEX, the theory being that people buy more underwear when they feel that the economy is doing well – and that people will make do with their existing underpants when the economy is doing poorly.
Based on that piece of stellar reporting, Web Watch is confident in saying that WAL-MART BELIEVES THE ECONOMY IS GROWING, as WAL-MART CEO BILL SIMON PREDICTS THIS HOLIDAY SEASON TO BE FILLED WITH UNDERWEAR AND SOCK PURCHASES for adults.
A study has concluded that THE WAY YOU USE THE TOILET CAN AFFECT YOUR HEALTH.
This really isn’t anything new, as proper toilet use has been studied since the 1960’s at least. At question is whether the upright, “European-style” toilets where one properly sits as if on their own personal throne, is good for you or not versus the time-worn method of evacuating by squatting over a convenient hole in the ground.
Homeless and begging on the street is not a way to go through life. But sadly, there are millions of people who – for whatever reason – find themselves having to do so.
Some do so willingly, as it is a better way of life than the one they left behind. Others do it because they have no other choice, and they struggle to scrape enough together to have a meal, a toothbrush, some occasional clean clothes.
One reporter decided to see what the homeless really wanted, if money was seemingly no object. So they GAVE THE HOMELESS VISA and AMERICAN EXPRESS GIFT CARDS with fixed dollar amounts to spend. The plan was to offer the gift cards to any panhandler who asked for money, but the promise was to go out any buy only what you need, but to return the card to the reporter within 30 minutes.
Russell, you may recall, had a bit of an issue in trying to use his Wilderness Explorer skills in using a latrine:

If only Russell had read Web Watch, he would have known about this product for his trip with Carl: It may seem amusing to some people, but the PEEPOOPLE serves an equally very specific and serious purpose.
Proper sanitation and facilities don’t always exist in third-world countries. Water, whether clean or not, is often scarce and seldom used to facilitate waste management as is done in European-style bathrooms. Women have even been attacked while on their way to use whatever restroom options are available.
Mousetrapped: A Year and a Bit in Orlando
Web Watch has to admire people like Lisa Ray.
Lisa has strong convictions and a big stick-to-it attitude that isn’t often seen elsewhere. She really does mean what she says, and says what she means. Good for her.
Lisa, the founder of PARENTS FOR ETHICAL MARKETING, was upset at how the Disney corporation handled a refund request for the Baby Einstein line of early-learning DVDs. Her reaction to those events (already documented elsewhere) led her to comment to her family, “I wish we could boycott Disney. But I don’t think we can. They’re too big.”
This got her 12-year-old daughter thinking, and she suggested that maybe they could go a year without Disney.
Lisa liked this idea so much, she decided that was exactly what she and her family were going to do: go A YEAR WITHOUT DISNEY.

If you don’t have a PENZEY’S SPICES store near you, then maybe you have some other fresh spice retailer or farmer’s market that you could hit up for some glass jars of spice goodness.
And even if you end up buying your spices at the local supermarket, drug store’s food aisle, or giant-size Super Center Warehouse Emporium, the most important thing you can remember is to rotate your spices on a regular basis. Dry spices especially will lose their flavors anywhere from 6 months to a year after your purchase. You wouldn’t serve a beer after it’s “best by” date – you should apply the same philosophy to your spice cabinet and toss out anything that’s more than a year old.
