How fast can you read?

Web Watch wouldn’t be able to cover as many websites as we do without being able to read quickly and comprehend what we’re poking our heads into.

Reading fast is one thing; knowing what we just read about is something else entirely.

But the question can come up as you outpace your friends and family in reading the BIG BANG THEORY VANITY CARDS before they’re off the screen as to exactly HOW FAST CAN YOU READ?

Old people shouldn’t drive with cruise control turned on

The other day, Web Watch was talking with some older relatives about a recent checkup that they had with their doctor.

Health-wise, everything’s fine… but when the doctor asked if they had made any lifestyle changes in the past year, they said that they had made one change: they’ve stopped using their car’s cruise control feature.

Eat like a man – don’t be a vegetarian

If you’re like the majority of people today, you’re a meat-eater.

A carnivore.  You’ll eat chicken, steak, pork.

You know, all that good, tasty stuff.

A few of you may go fish-only, deciding that being a pescatarian is more your style.

Even fewer may decide that, for various reasons, being a vegetarian is the right lifestyle choice for you.  And then there are the vegans, who eschew all animal products (including dairy, eggs, and honey).

We’ll let the vegans be, as they’re not hurting anyone.

But the vegetarians?  Those people we’ll chat about today.  Read on…

Have you ever snuck into a concert?

Web Watch has been lucky enough to have seen pretty much every major artist we’ve ever wanted to see play in concert.

Kenny Rogers?  Check.

U2? Check.

Neil Diamond? Check.

Village People?  You betcha.

And for the most part, we had tickets or passes for every show.  Now, we’ll admit that there may have been one or two where we did end up having to finagle our way into a venue or two, but we swear that we had a legitimate right to be there to justify our sneakiness.

Just because we didn’t have a ticket at the time doesn’t mean that we didn’t know where we could get one.

What are the odds of killing yourself when playing Russian Roulette?

What are the odds of killing yourself while playing Russian Roulette?

Web Watch doesn’t really know why this question was asked on the Internet, but it was – and it’s our duty to share this information with our faithful Web Watch readers.

Because one never knows when one will find themselves in a Russian Roulette game where this may come into play.

Of course, you can always make it Beer Roulette, where you guess as to which one of the beers in the 6-pack has been shaken up.  It’s a waste of a good can of beer, but it’s infinitely funnier.

Has your website been plagiarized?

Web Watch has been around for quite a number of years now, having presented our faithful readers with thousands of websites, videos, news articles, and other tidbits of helpful information along the way.

And with that type of success online, we’re also subjected to having our content stolen.

It’s true — and we’ve had to file cease & desist notices to a number of websites that copied our original content and presented it as their own.

Silly rabbit – just because it’s posted on the Internet doesn’t mean that it’s free for the taking.

How hard is it to learn Spanish?

How hard is it to learn Spanish?

When you look at the scale of all languages around the world, learning Spanish is about as difficult as learning French, Italian, or Portuguese.

Surprisingly, a few other languages were also considered at the same level — Afrikaans, Norwegian, Swedish, and Dutch included.

How to test a toilet using the Bristol Stool Scale

With all of today’s technology, one common household feature can also be one of the most frustrating.

Yes, we’re talking about the toilet. More specifically, your toilet’s flushing ability.

(Did you know that there are seven different types of poop?   We’ll get back to this in a moment…)

One thing that Web Watch always makes note of when we’re staying at hotels across the country is whether the hotel’s engineering staff “get it” in terms of providing adequate flushing power for their guests.  We were so impressed at the flushing prowess at one hotel that we went so far as to take a look in the tank to see what magic flushing mechanism was inside (in that case, it was a professional pressurized unit – all the more likely to not break by curious guests like ourselves).

Worse is when we have to report to the hotel’s front desk about the poor toilet situation in our room.  We often wonder is it an isolated situation in our room, or is it something that’s more common across the whole floor or entire hotel.  Sadly, we never do get the chance to get the answer to this.

Dogs understand people more than you think

How well do you know your dog?

More importantly, how well does your dog know you?

Have you ever noticed that your dog does really well with sensory clues around them to react to?  Web Watch remembers a former pet we had that would sleep in the corner all night long… but the one time that we knowingly get up to go to the refrigerator for a snack, they would wake right up and follow us to the kitchen.

Every.  Single.  Time.

It’s like they knew something, sensed something about what we were doing – and acted upon it.

Turns out, our observation isn’t that far from the truth discovered by scientists.

Be an adult – don’t touch a pregnant woman

Are you an adult?

If you were, then you would already know that there are certain responsibilities that you have now that you didn’t have when you were growing up.

Responsibilities such as how to act when you’re around pregnant women.

How to find out how much a taxi ride will cost you

So the other day, Web Watch was out on the road and needed to get from our hotel to a restaurant a few miles away.

We definitely had choices available, as taking a taxi wasn’t our only option — and we didn’t necessarily need to have door-to-door service as being dropped off anywhere in the general neighborhood would have been perfectly acceptable.

But being on a tight budget, we wanted to know ahead of time how much our taxi ride was going to cost us.

How to reach Inbox Zero

Inbox Zero.

Web Watch hears this phrase thrown about at the office by managers who feel overwhelmed by the constant influx of arriving email messages.

All they want to do is get their email inbox to read “0 messages”…. and hopefully keep it that way.

Web Watch understands the desire to have 0 waiting messages, but INBOX ZERO is a goal that not everyone can achieve — especially us, who receives upwards of 1000 emails a day across multiple email accounts.   Granted, the vast majority of those messages are ones that can either be filed away or deleted without even being read or addressed — but that still is going to leave a few hundred emails each day that still need to be processed in some manner.

Yeah, achieving INBOX ZERO isn’t always possible for everybody…

Only 15% of Americans avoid food poisoning by doing just one thing

Having food poisoning is not pretty, either for you or those around you.

Web Watch knows – the one time it hit us, we were trying to enjoy a group outing while on a trip away from home.  You’d be surprised how quickly getting that ill, that quickly will identify who your real traveling companions are (hint: that number is close to zero during that time period — when it comes to food poisoning, you’re going to be mainly on your own).

So what can you do to avoid getting food poisoning?

Unfortunately, the majority of food poisoning occurs while you’re away from home, eating at restaurants with poor health scores or who happened to receive tainted food themselves.

In other words, when you’re eating out, there’s not much you can do if someone serves you bad food that really, really disagrees with you.
